Stephen I hear what you are saying but for now the only thing I am seeing as a cause and effect is that whenever we regenerate a data model without kicking people off it is around the time the quick searches stop working for those people. Its pretty consistent. I am not seeing anything on the error logs regarding memory or low calls but I will keep monitoring

 

Anyway it is going to brought up to the weekly Friday meeting for development to see if there is any root cause. There have been no tickets brought up on this, so it just may be that since we are in heavy development prior to go live we are seeing it as an issue, where others already on E10 may not be doing much customization in the way of adding fields.

Just a note on this, that description about being part of a different app pool is not how IIS works, if you recycle the app pool, that w3wp.exe process is killed. Users don’t notice they overlap as the new one is started, well they may see a slight delay in the next call but due to the design of the framework it will reconnect and not error. I have restarted the server  and not had to close the client which is pretty nice.

 

But just for clarification what support may have learned is not how it works. There were issues with data model regeneration not copying the data models over and requiring this to be done twice but I just didn’t want people thinking there are two different app pools when you recycle and your connected clients are linked to another – they are not…

 

If you are getting errors like logic not executing you need to review the event viewer and enable tracing. Sometimes if resources are low calls will not be returned due to low memory but you would always see this in the event viewer.

From talking to support, and, it should be added, they just learned something recently from developers in E10, if you add a UD field and then bind that to a database, and then regenerate a data model without everyone off the system (which I am guilty of) and then restart the app pool and IIS, those people who were logged in are actually part of a different app pool, so to them their services are not running because they still belong to the old app pool.

 

This kind of makes sense because there has to be something that triggers something to stop working. We are in implementation stage and there is development work going on so I am kind of leaning towards something like that as the root cause

We will go for a period of time with no issue and then when you try to use a quick search (user created or epicor) they return no results. Restarting the task agent sometimes works, other times not. Sometimes we have to recycle the app pool to get it to work

Just a note on this, that description about being part of a different app pool is not how IIS works, if you recycle the app pool, that w3wp.exe process is killed. Users don’t notice they overlap as the new one is started, well they may see a slight delay in the next call but due to the design of the framework it will reconnect and not error. I have restarted the server  and not had to close the client which is pretty nice.

 

But just for clarification what support may have learned is not how it works. There were issues with data model regeneration not copying the data models over and requiring this to be done twice but I just didn’t want people thinking there are two different app pools when you recycle and your connected clients are linked to another – they are not…

 

If you are getting errors like logic not executing you need to review the event viewer and enable tracing. Sometimes if resources are low calls will not be returned due to low memory but you would always see this in the event viewer.

From talking to support, and, it should be added, they just learned something recently from developers in E10, if you add a UD field and then bind that to a database, and then regenerate a data model without everyone off the system (which I am guilty of) and then restart the app pool and IIS, those people who were logged in are actually part of a different app pool, so to them their services are not running because they still belong to the old app pool.

 

This kind of makes sense because there has to be something that triggers something to stop working. We are in implementation stage and there is development work going on so I am kind of leaning towards something like that as the root cause

Stephen I hear what you are saying but for now the only thing I am seeing as a cause and effect is that whenever we regenerate a data model without kicking people off it is around the time the quick searches stop working for those people. Its pretty consistent. I am not seeing anything on the error logs regarding memory or low calls but I will keep monitoring

Anyway it is going to brought up to the weekly Friday meeting for development to see if there is any root cause. There have been no tickets brought up on this, so it just may be that since we are in heavy development prior to go live we are seeing it as an issue, where others already on E10 may not be doing much customization in the way of adding fields.
