E10 upgrade/migration

We built 2 new VMs with Server 2012/SQL2012, did backup and attached the ERP 9 database to the SQL 2012, installed ERP 10 on the new Server 2012, and then migrated ERP 9 to ERP 10 during the install.

Subject: [Vantage] E10 upgrade/migration

Currently on 9.05.702A (SQL) and want to go to 10 on a new server (which we will eventually virtualize).

Current config is Server 2008 R2, SQL 2008... new server will be Server 2012, SQL 2012.

What would be the best path?

1. Upgrade SQL to 2012 on current box with current E9... we can do that any time.

2. Migrate E9 to E10

3. Build new box with Server 12 and SQL 12

4. restore migrated database to new server

OR

1. Build new box with Server 12 and SQL 12

2. Migrate E9 to E10 on existing 2008/2008 box

3. Restore migrated 2008 database to new server

I just tried building a test box with 12/12, then to install 9.05.702A and go through it... but progress won't run after being installed on Server 12. Looks like I need to build a 2008 test bed... had hoped to avoid that.
