E9.04.507A - App servers for on DB consuming 6GB of RAM

Personally, I find changing the timeout from 1800 to 900 to be a nice benefit, it trims the timeout down to 15 minutes instead of 30 minutes which is just a little too long in my mind.

Also, if for some reason you are actually using up to 60, then that could be telling you that you may have a record locking problem which will backup processes and cause more AppServers to spawn.

Hi Joe,

The starting point that I use for what the max number of servers should be for the main appserver is

((max number of users / 4) * 1.5) OR 20 whichever is higher, then adjust as needed from there

You are right, 60 seems like overkill, but if the demand isn’t there to spawn them then the number of servers will never reach that level. As long as your server has the resources to support 60 servers then it should be fine..

What do you have your min servers set to on your main appserver? If you can reduce the number of your min servers it will trim some of those appservers and release the memory if they aren’t being used.

With Epicor904 the appservers are 32bit so I don’t know how it would be possible for one 32bit application process to utilize more than 4GB of RAM

Hello,

Possibly related to my other email about slow order entry, I just finished running another data conversion to take 1,300 sales order off of credit hold.

It was a slow process but when it finally completed, I noticed that task manager was showing 9.8 GB of RAM used (12GB is installed).

I thought this was extreme because I only have the Pilot database running.

I stopped the app servers for Pilot and the RAM usage dropped over 6GB, down to 3.3GB.

My database is only 355MB (still implementing).

Anyone else encounter this issue? 6GB for a 355MB database seems really out of line. To the point where something must be wrong.

Hi Nathan,

It was:

Initial: 10

Min: 10

Max: 60

Now it is:

Initial: 5

Min: 5

Max: 60

Max of 60 sounds crazy for 32 user licenses but it was that way when I got here.

I apologize, I misread the issue – that darn ‘s’ at the end of appserver threw me off J

What do you have your min servers set to on your main appserver? If you can reduce the number of your min servers it will trim some of those appservers and release the memory if they aren’t being used.

The memory leak issue fix is in 9.04.507a so something else is causing it.

With Epicor904 the appservers are 32bit so I don’t know how it would be possible for one 32bit application process to utilize more than 4GB of RAM

I think this is a known issue in the 9.04 Version, which is known as Memory leak issue.

This issue was resolved in 9.05

Hello,

Possibly related to my other email about slow order entry, I just
finished running another data conversion to take 1,300 sales order off
of credit hold.

It was a slow process but when it finally completed, I noticed that task
manager was showing 9.8 GB of RAM used (12GB is installed).

I thought this was extreme because I only have the Pilot database
running.

I stopped the app servers for Pilot and the RAM usage dropped over 6GB,
down to 3.3GB.

My database is only 355MB (still implementing).

Anyone else encounter this issue? 6GB for a 355MB database seems really
out of line. To the point where something must be wrong.
