E9 Customization VB.Net

Without getting into a religious war on programming languages, the
main reason to do customizations in C# depends on if you'll ever use
EpicorAnywhere, i.e. the web version of Epicor. The process that
generates web pages from the Windows Forms files knows how to convert
C# to JavaScript but not VB.

Mark W.
I am starting to work on Customizations in E9 and the programming language is set to C#. I want to just transfer my VB.Net code over. Is there a way to change the programming language.

Thanks,

Scott
Yes but you don't want to :-)

Joking aside its on the Script Tab, you can choose between VB and C#
although I STRONGLY ADVICE YOU STICK WITH C# there is even a tool that will
help you convert your code. within Epicor.

You know I always wondered the same thing. They functionally work the same... I used to code in VB.NET only and Jose talked me into moving to C#. I don't know why, but I love it, I will never go back. I've even gone back and converted old scripts to C# from .NET. Maybe it's just a personal preference thing but C# ROCKS!

*Mostly joking*
Because that's what real programmers do! heh

Ok ok... I'll take bashing for that, but never the less. Epicor (Client)
is written in C# not VB, and although the .NET framework will take either,
if in the future Epicor were to move up in a different direction VB may not
be supported. C# is more restrictive which is good in an environment where
making logic errors can be a bad thing. VB will take a lot
of liberties that C# won't with typing and casting which are generally
friendlier to the developer its a lot easier to assign an int to a string
and not have to worry about casting but in the end this could lead to
strange behavior which could bite you in the butt.

However I acknowledge that in the end you are using the same managed code /
framework and the byte code will likely be identical.

You don't have to do 'AndAlso' in c#.

That's probably because you already have some C# code or some changes.
