PAGE: 12165MPS
PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: Received errors in AppServer log. Information does not provide any type of program call stack. Need additional information.
PROBLEM RESOLUTION: To get additional information trapped in the Appserver log when the Progress codes throws an error, set the logs to verbose and add the following switch to the Appserver startup parameters line. -debugalert
Note: Replace Epicor905 with the name of whatever appserver you are changing the settings for. You will have to stop and restart the Epicor905 appserver for this procedure.
STEPS: Progress Explorer Tool (PET)
Note: PET is not compatible with 64-bit Operating Systems however it can be installed on any 32-bit Client PC, typically for system administrators..
1. On an admin client machine, Open Progress Explorer Tool (PET).
2. Click on Appservers --> Epicor905, right mouse click select Properties.
3. Go to Agent --> General.
4. On the " Server Startup Parameters" line, at the very end, press the space bar and add: -debugalert.
5. Click on Agent and then Click on Logging Setting.
a. ==> Change the Logging level to Verbose.
IMPORTANT: if using 905.600, set to Extended. 905.601 and beyond use Verbose.
b. ==> Enter 5000000<tel:5000000> in Server log file threshold size. This is the number is in bytes. So after 5MB, the log file will rollover.
IMPORTANT: this value cannot be less than 500000, otherwise the appserver will not start.
c. ==> Enter 10 in Maximum number of server log files.
IMPORTANT: this value cannot be less than 3, otherwise the appserver will not start.
d. ==> Server Logging entry types: ASPlumbing,DB.Connects,FileID <== Add FileID to end of line.
6. Now you will see log file names in the format Epicor905.server.000001.log and Epicor905.server.000002.log. After that it will start overwriting the first one.
7. Now stop the Epicor905 appserver. After approx 30 seconds restart the appserver.
8. Then, repeat the process that generated there error.

~DIRECTORY LISTING
1. From your Epicor application server, please open a command line on the server (start>Run type cmd and press enter).
2. Change directory to your epicor905 folder and run the following command.
Dir /s /n > epicorserverlisting.txt
3. Afterwards please send in the epicorserverlisting.txt file from the root of your epicor905 folder along with the appserver logs for review.
Once you have the log files set to verbose and have reproduced your issue, the log files should be zipped up and sent
toepicor.res@...<mailto:
epicor.res@...> with the call number in the summary of the email. The log files can be found at:
YourServerName\Epicor\Epicor905\server\logs
Example:
Sample after the -debugalert and verbose logging was turned on shows the following. Now you can see the problem is stemming from in a custom program "JobEntry.p".
