E9 speed gain from patching up

When I ran the web installer from: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=2da43d38-db71-4c1b-bc6a-9b6652cd92a3&displaylang=en

It DID install several updates, but I noted that the version number did not change at all from what it was previously when I check by running dxdiag. But if I attempt to run the installer again, it says I'm up to date.
Before update: 9.0c 409.0000.0904
After update: 9.0c 409.0000.0904

Plus, I've not really noticed much an improvement in performance though.
Maybe the original poster had clients that were way out of date, like even an old XP SP?

All,
Is there a gain to be had in performance simply by updating from 9.04.506 to 9.04.506c? Reading the patch guide, I don't see anything that would lend itself to this, but my admin "heard" it, so I am asking the experts. Our biggest issues are on loading and caching forms the first time used, search routines, save, and refresh. All are very slow.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!

Hi leAnn,

> Our end users all access through Citrix, but all clients are Windows XP.

In the early days of Vantage 8.03, I remember that we got a speed
increase when we updated to the most current version of DirectX. The
download is everywhere but I would get it from Microsoft's site.

Mark W.
Gidday Mark - I've done a lot of digging to see what would improve our user experience here (especially for our battered quoting team), but haven't come across this DirectX issue before.

In what areas did you see the improvements? What scale of improvement? Is MES also improved?

We're on 8.03.405A and I'm happy to do some "before and after" testing - if I know where to best measure... If this is worth doing, I'll need some degree of evidence to show our IT guy to warrant his rolling out the DirectX changes.

cheers kindly
Kerry.

Hi Kerry,

This improvement was found completed by accident. The person who did
workstation updates just tried it and the screen painting went a lot faster
(twice maybe?). Now all workstations were Dell and it may have had something
to do with the particular graphics card. I don't know for sure since we
didn't expect the improvement but each system we updated did seem to work
better. That was a few years ago now and on XP, so your mileage may vary.
(Would you say your meterage may vary???)

Cheers,

Mark

Thanks Mark. Yeah, you'd think it'd be meterage - but it's not ;-) The imperial legacy is pretty hard to shake - even for those of us born after the decimal takeover.

We're still on XP here - but all the power users seem to be on the latest official DirectX possible. It was worth a look though.

regards
Kerry

I just need some clarification:
1. What DirectX version is being referred to here? DirectX 11?
2. What platform is it being installed on? Windows XP SP3?
3. What is the URL for the installer?
4. Does anyone have any recommendations on how to mass deploy?
Thanks,

Rick

I would also be interested to know.

Just done a quick Google search and that suggests...

Windows XP - DirectX9
Windows Vista - DirectX10
Windows 7 - DirectX11

It suggests these are the maximum you can go upto but I would like to know if
this is true.

Thanks,

CHRIS
