From my current understanding, with the deployment of 2026.1, the Epicor application will not be available for download. When that happens, everyone will be forced to the web version of Epicor. The Edge Agent links to C:\Epicor which will no longer exists after 2026.1
Which brings me to my question: Is there an update planned for edge agent that I am not aware of? Or is my understanding inaccurate?
The Edge Agent was originally created to access to local printers. The ability to access files on the LAN was added. Finally, the ability to open the Classic Client was added. I would imagine that only the last part will be removed, but you will still have the other capabilities. @Olga might shed more light on this.
I think one of reasons to select the install folder was to point to the sysconfig file to get the right app server and all. Since powertools exists, I imagine there will still be a sysconfig file so it can connect to the right server.
I have run with Web only and Edge Agent installed, you don’t need to supply that local folder, AFAIK it is only needed if you want/need to launch classic forms.
While it may offer the ability to look at a Power Tools install, I suspect they will remove that altogether since not all client machines will have Power Tools.
I suspect they will just wholesale remove that screen from the setup and have you supply the App Server (it is part of the URL) manually.
The edge agent is still available for 2026, but it will no longer have the ability to launch the smart client… basically because the smart client will no longer exist. The PowerTools client will be there, so the four apps embedded in the power tools (such as Advance Print Routing, and Epicor Functions) may still be launchable via edge agent (last I heard).
BUT remember that the edge agent is NOT required at all once you are in the browser. it simply makes it a simpler path to print to local client and allows for drag and drop of attachments. If you dont have the edge agent, you can still do attachments and printing, but it requires extra steps. (But you CAN print to Network printers without edge agent).
How do you print to Network printers without edge agent? Also what are the additional steps required for doing attachments without the edge agent?
I would also be interested in learning how to setup network printing without the edge agent as the current setup for cloud hosted environments according to KB0120336 requires the edge agent and for the edge agent to be re-downloaded and installed after an update to the edge agent.

Yes, for local resources (File Shares). For documents in ECM, SharePoint, or other https sources, it shouldn’t be required.
Hmm, TimS made it sound like Agent would not be required for attachments of any type. My understanding was the same as yours.

Tim, do you know if the PowerTools client will include Crystal Reports runtimes? We still use Crystal, I think right now we can print crystal reports because the Edge Agent relays it to the Classic Client.
Haso, you maybe print differently than we do, but we do not need classic client to print crystal reports, though the runtime dependencies have to be in a directory the edge agent knows about from what I understand.
it is my understanding that you will still be able to print using Crystal in 2026.1. We do not plan to remove crystal or SSRS until after we are fully on the new reporting tool (BoldReports by SyncFusion).
This is great to hear! We’re cloud, still Smart Client and Crystal (I know, it’s getting late - please don’t judge, lol). Our CAM and our Epicor partner have been saying that we need to convert our CR’s to SSRS before 2026.1. It’s causing a panic as we’re small with limited resources and learning/outsourcing SSRS just as an interim seems so pointless/expensive.

No judgement at all but since you’re cloud you NEED to get to Kinetic UI very soon.
LOL I opened case with EpicCare today asking this question. We are removing access to the classic client this month to get ahead of the game, but you need it installed to print to a physical printer? Unless you can skip that part of the install, not sure yet.
Will report back if they give something other than what’s in here.
@jbooker’s post above is correct there are three paths to Print from Kinetic Browser.
1- Print Preview then print to physical printer (No EA required)
2- Printer icon - Requires local EA installed
3- Network Print - Requires a networked install version of EA on a print server in your network (also work with Support to get this mode enabled on your environment if you’re SaaS)
Note: One minus to #3 above is that you can’t set a “Default Printer” so the user must select the printer from the list presented each print.
