I know this subject has been beaten to death and is a contentious one but can you good people clarify that if we are using the browser On Prem we still need to install full fat clients onto machines so that Edge Agent can be deployed to use prints etc…?
We’re 99% browser based - only thing we’ve installed on desktops is the Edge Agent.
The other 1% is for items not browser-ready…so we use a Citrix desktop connection to cover those (DMTs for example).
Do you have a windows print server in your environment? What we do here is install the edge agent in the service mode on it, and it allows access to all the printers in our company. They can then be added to Kinetic for the SSRS printing and what not.
If you’re never going to use Classic forms, then no need for the Smart Client to be installed on each machine. I would only install it on your admin machines to allow access to the tools that are not browser based.
I’ve been testing out the browser client entirely without Edge Agent. This has been indispensible to identify everywhere we needed to update menu items to be browser client compatible.
Printing without Edge Agent works exactly like print previewing from the desktop client. This actually fits our process perfectly. Users prefer to have digital copies of reports to save or email. It’s looking like we might not need Edge Agent at all except possibly for one or two users.
We set up our network printers on our app server…so users can do a Network Print…and we use Edge Agent on the user machines to do Client Print.
Hi Chris,
If possible, can you message me details on how you have done this so we can take a look at that option?
Cheers.
