A couple of our customers are requiring that we use EDI. I am trying to learn as much as I can to decide exaclty how we should do it - EDI to fax, Sterling GENTRAN, or Epicor's EDI module. Anyone interested in discussing EDI off list, please email or call.
Thanks,

Does anyone use the Vantage EDI module? If so, would you be willing to answer a few questions off list?

Does anyone have EDI integrated with Vantage working yet?

I'm looking for info on the Vantage EDI Module. Is anybody using it
effectively? What are you using for Translation Software? We
currently use an older version of Sterling Commerce's GenTran,
without the Vantage interface. Half of our customers have gone the
way of the internet, and the other half refuse to budge off of
traditional EDI.

Vantage EDI module only contains the 830, 850 Import documents, and the
810 & 856 export documents.
We have been using the EDI module for several years now with one of our
large customers. The problem has been that Vantage EDI is so inflexible
that we have a VB program to "modify" the 850 document before importing
into Vantage, and the export was so bad that we don't even use it , we
just have a report builder report creating a file, and an VB program
converts it to the proper format before sending it to our customer.
Epicor cu$tom programming wants $4000 - $6000 for a 857 document PER
CUSTOMER!!!!!
We are contemplating hiring someone to develope a 857 & 997 document
which we need for another customer who wants us to use EDI transactions,
and rewrite the 850 & 810 documents to allow some data mapping. If
anyone is interested in sharing the expenses, and sharing the code,
please let me know!

Is anyone out there using the EDI module? Are you using a 3rd party translator? Which VAN? This is very confusing and expensive. We just got both of the quotes in from Vantage and their "partner" EB2B and our accountant about had heart failure. Are their any other answers?

Hi Scott,
We at General Sheet Metal Works are using EDI (862 inbound and 810 outbound)
We have one trading partner (Toro)
I wrote a Visual Basic Program that uses Access for the conversion.
The Van that we use is ATT, they were cheapest.
Yes EDI can be very expensive.
Thanks,

We are a major automotive supplier but have found that the EDI does not match what our buyer request of us. Originally we set up EDI as a custom program that has failed in all aspects to our business needs but met the buyers requirements. I am re looking at this as our custom programming does not allow for forecasting, real time shipping, or tracking. Does anyone have any input or suggestions?

Well you bring up a good question. My shipping supervisor wants me to look
into using the Vantage EDI because she believes it will help us in the typo
mistakes that they face and get rid of key strokes with the entering of the
orders. I use a different software provider to get my releases then a data
entry person updates the releases in the Vantage system and also puts in new
orders. How do you like the EDI that Vantage offers, and has it helped with
the cut down of time on entering in orders and updating releases.

Hi Tracy, Sam,
At General Sheet Metal we use the EDI module in Vantage.
It gives us an in bound 830 (JIT schedule 1500+ lines per week ) and out
bound 810 (invoice ) and 856 (advanced ship notice)
I think they work great. No data entry errors. It is fast.
I have done my own data conversion in Visual Basic and Access. This
gives me a handle on the data
for reporting purposes.
I recommend using Easy Link for your VAN. They offer data conversion.
Thanks,
John Mansfield

We currently do not use the Vantage EDI but a customized (by our request and specs) to meet the needs of our buyer because there is a lack of flexibility in the current EDI module. There is a standard for EDI bar-coding that I believe is missing from Vantage (AIAG B10 and B14 guidelines) that would help greatly. I am looking into a company called E2B2 that is a Epicor Partner who specializes in EDI.

Finally! A topic I can sink my teeth into! My company is a small EDI
service provider that has had success working with Vantage users in
conjunction with the services of Misha 1. We're pulling data from the VAN
for Vantage customers, translating it into a file layout defined by Misha 1
and put it into our FTP server. Misha 1 does the Vantage work right down to
writing the FTP routine to pull or drop off data. So far its working
seamlessly and our customers are quite happy.
The biggest problem we have run into is the Ship To code problem. If you
have a trading partner who expects you to drop ship to their customer, you
face hundreds, if not thousands of ship to codes that must be set up before
you import data into the system. A headache we solve for the customer.
We are also all former SupplyTech/Harbinger employees from S.E. Michigan so,
we are proclaimed "experts" with automotive data. Combine this with a
web-EDI service for small customersor suppliers and we can offer a complete
EDI package for a company, servicing their trading partners as well as their
suppliers, to make your job easier.
You can contact Misha 1 at 1-866-464-7421 and myself at the contact info
below!

Hi Rich,
Yes that's what I did a long while ago.
Today I use Visual Basic and Access to do the same.
How familiar are you with VB?
Where will your inbound data come from?
Thanks,

Is anyone using the Vantage EDI module? What communications package are
you using with it?
I would appreciate any pros and cons as we are needing to update what we
are currently using.
We are on 6.10.519.
Thanks,

Does anyone use EDI? If so, what solution are you using for EDI?
Currently, we are using Access to what to pull the data over in EDI
format, but we are looking for an easier way to do this. Any
suggestions?
We are currently on 5.2 and the lady who wrote the current Access
database that we are using is no longer here and she didn't remember how
she got it to work.

Dolores,
I have used MS-Access to create flat files for Vantage 6.1-EDI and EDI
Communication Applications (TrustedLink) using a table, a spreadsheet or
a comma delimited file as sources. I have the VB code to read and create
these flat files. If you are interested on creating flat files using
the sources above mentioned, contact me off line.
In the other hand, having MS-Access read a flat file is something I
would like to know more about. It will be nice if someone can share
their VB code on how MS-Access could read a flat file and place
information into fields which is the opposite of what I have. Anyone
want to share this?

Delores,
We have been attempting to implement Vantage 8.03.xxx since 4th qtr
2006 and have been delayed due to lacking EDI functionality in base
Vantage for 850, 810(INV&CM, 820, & 856. We acquired TIE Commerce
last September based on Epicor's recommendation to help speed up our
implementation since we were encountering mapping issues with our
legacy EDI mapping software.
Long story.... We are using TIE Commerce for mapping, serviceconnect,
and Vantage 8.03.305a. We will be going to patch F soon since B - F
have a number of EDI fixes and ultimately to 400 that is to have the
auto print/detection feature for 810/856.
Our current production environment is COBOL using Gentran Director
for mapping.

Good Morning,
We are currently looking to get away from transmitting our invoices via
EDI and start using XML format (per our customer's request). We were
going to stick with the current company we are using (Channelinx) to
export our data into XML format and package it to move to our customer
as they said it would be no problem. However, for some reason, they
have blown us off. I was wondering if anyone knows of any other company
that can do this. Thanks for you help.
