The most effective tool is VFP but is a bit expensive for casual table
manipulation. For a simple alternative there is always something like

That makes sense too because when I notepad edit then CR complains about
indexes not found. When I open in autovue there are some non-character
(binary) items at the start of the file, likely those indexes. Excel seems
to scramble them pretty bad because using an edited DBF that way crashes CR
altogether.
I ended up printing the wrong WC code to trigger the extra stuff and using a
black sharpies pen to write over it with the new code. All they wanted was
a sample for the a process instructions meeting for the new code's
procedures.

Ok, I will retract the bit about excel, but trying in access seems to point
to the reason. Something about an index file that is expected.
Sorry, I can't be of more help on this.

Subject: [Vantage] Editing .DBF file (for Crystal)
Might be either really easy or impossible but.... what would I use to
edit the .dbf file being used by Crystal Job Traveler? I am testing
some new features added that are triggered by Work Center code and we
have no jobs entered with the new WC code (and no test DB at the moment
to play with). I wanted to edit the .dbf file with notepad but this
apparently corrupts it some how. Excel also affects it so Crystal won't
read it.
Any suggestions for manually altering the .dbf files?
Thanks,
Todd Caughey
