Just started direct deposit this January, 2001. Love it. Have been using
Vantage payroll for nearly two years. Works great for us.

We have used DD for several years. We had software from our bank and now
use their website to import the eMan created .txt file. Works great for us.
Key is your bank. If they want you create a file in the NACHA format ready
to be used by their system, you are in for some work. We have worked with 3
different banks and all of them provided software that imports the file as
created by eMan (we had to set up a mapping) and creates a file in the
format they need.

We started using direct deposit last month. We've had nothing but trouble.
Fortunately, we were able to fix the file with assistance from our bank so
that at least the deposits were booked on time. Our problem is currently
with custom programming for review.

The direct deposit file from Vantage needs to formatted to the ACH standard used by your bank. Most users, (it seems from e-mails I've seen) have had the luck where their bank provided them software to convert the file, free! I had to write a VB program to convert and calculate the data for the file to transmit to our bank. I would work you bank as much as possible. ACH is a standard that most banks use. I don't know why Epicor can't give us an ACH standard export file. Yes, there are probably banks that tweak things just to make life difficult for us, but what Vantage give us today is not acceptable to any bank I don't think. I would also like them to set something up for pre-notes. I had to write a section in my program for creating pre-note records. It is not really a good test, because you either re-enter the bank codes, subject error, or cut and paste from Vantage, which is ok, but you could still slip with the delete key or space bar and end up with a pre-note that contains data different than you Vantage data. Enough said.
