Do you mean as a scheduling problem or a labor activity reporting problem (or both?)

Create overly constrained (finite) capacity/load conditions and the V8 Global Rescheduler will misbehave (scheduling OPs out of sequence).

On the labor entry side you can enable the shop warning for 'prior operation not started' & at least generate a warning when people report things out of sequence.

(You could probably create a BPM to force a hard stop on labor as well.)

We are on Vantage 8.03, and our system currently allows a job to be routed out of sequence and bypass a production step prior to completion.  Is there a switch somewhere in Vantage where we can prevent this from occurring so that a job cannot go to the next defined step without the prior step being completed?

There is not, it is completely dependent on your rock solid internal control processes… any desire to control this in an engineered fashion has to be accomplished through customizations i.e. BPM’s etc..
