Patty,
Not only will Vantage not allow you to choose the revision, the stock
business logic for Engineering Workbench always chooses the latest
revision, approved or NOT (at least in our version 8.00.811b). I'd be
curious if your later version is any different. This makes it
impossible to start new revisions until you are ready to approve and
implement the changes. At the very least, if it would select the
latest APPROVED revision, it would at least be workable. As it is, it
can be aggravating.
Although the program theoretically allows multiple approved revisions,
in practice, the business logic does not back this up since you have
no option to select revision for engineering and costing. I would
suggest not having multiple approved revisions if you can avoid it.
Otherwise, customization to the business logic may be the only (ugly
and expensive) option.
I can understand why they don't allow the choice of revision in
Engineering Workbench since a subassembly may get updated and then you
would have to update all of the parent revisions where as now they
automatically get updated to the latest revision. However, what I
really don't understand is why it would EVER choose an UNAPPROVED
revision!!!
Anyway, I put in a change request to support for this two years ago
when we first went live on V8 but haven't heard anything since. Maybe
in Epicor 9?
Best of luck,
Chris
