Entering purchase of services

Usually we do services using subcontract operation of a job.

We have been inputting purchase of services by using part number.
However, it has been a problem, since it is treating the services(i.e.
advertising) as inventory and pricing it at "last" entry. We use "last"
method for pricing inventory. Does anybody use different way of
accounting for services? We are using 6.10 Vantage.
