Epicor 9.05 tuning

what patch level are you on?
we went from 905.600B to 600C and found a big improvement in overall system performance.

We have followed the new tuning guide provided by Epicor, had calls with Ben and VMWare guide, yet the system is still uber slow. My users are complaining on a daily basis.

Rumor has it there are some issues with Patch 9.05.600B which are causing
some problems with performance.

This patch should be avoided, and anyone who is on it should move to 601 as
soon as possible once it's released, which I hear is supposed to be sometime
in the next couple weeks.

600B is also no longer on Epicweb, I think 600C addresses some of the
problems, but not all of them.

We have a beefy new server. 4 quad-core processors, 32GB of RAM. Some clients have found benefit using a dual-core client. Largely, to avoid declining buy-in and concentrate effort where it is most productive...we purchased several new client systems. Users in mission-critical positions got the new systems and have seen improvement. We had some "out of memory" errors by users who use up to 11 EpiViews at a time, so...this often eleviated getting said error.

It runs incredibly slow for us we've ran the tunning guide and done
everything we can. We have a huge server with tons of ram 4 quad cores and
it still runs like butt.

I don't see them fixing it any time soon, I think the speed isses speak
about the size and complexity of the system and they are not going to be
able to get much better performance out of it.

You can put your report data to another server as there is typically a
lot of disk activity for reports.
You can separate out the mfgsys into multiple files instead of just the
single one.
For example you can move the high transaction tables, such as PartTran,
into its own separate file.

we found that 905.600b was verrry slow and when upgrading to 600C found a very nice performance bump

While E9 is feature rich, our users swear that we have never returned
to the speed of Vantage 8.03.4XX. I know that was a goal for Epicor as
they always made a point of asking during the beta process.

Mark W.
Is performance equally slow when launching the client on the server itself?

What do you class as 'uber slow'?

How many seconds to launch a screen or send a print job?

We had very bad performance running 9.05.600 – print jobs would take 1-3 minutes for a sales acknowledgment or quote and everything was sluggish
Once we upgraded to 9.05.600C things speeded up to the point where testing against 803.409 -> 9.05.600C is faster and print jobs take 10 seconds to come up
If you view the release notes, very little was done in 9.05.600C – they may have just remembered to take out all the debug code
If you have not done yet, upgrade!

We recently moved from 8.03 to 9.05.600C and have found a deteriation in
performance specifically for reporting. I tested the generation of an Epicor 9
Standard AR Invoice and it takes 1 min 30 sec to appear on screen...This is
rediculous!!! I imagine the xml file creation on the server takes up most of
this. Has any one encountered and solved some of the slow reporting behaviour?

Paul

I may be repeating what you already know.
Is it taking 1 min 30 sec until the report viewer comes up or is it taking 1 min 30 sec until the report viewer is actually display the final report result?
If it's the later, then open up the report in Crystal, go into page setup and check the "No Printer" checkbox then save report and try again.
I was surprised at what a difference this small change made.

Paul

We had very bad performance running 9.05.600 - print jobs would take 1-3 minutes
for a sales acknowledgment or quote and everything was sluggish
Once we upgraded to 9.05.600C things speeded up to the point where testing
against 803.409 -> 9.05.600C is faster and print jobs take 10 seconds to come up
If you view the release notes, very little was done in 9.05.600C - they may have
just remembered to take out all the debug code
If you have not done yet, upgrade!

The report that is slow for us is the Inventory/WIP Reconciliation
report. It ran 5-10 minutes in Vantage but takes several hours in
504C. I know others have better time than we do but we're not sure
why.

It's not so much launch or print jobs that are giving us problems. It's database changes. Sometimes it can take up to 20 seconds to save or delete simple data.
