Hi everyone,
I would like to get a feeling of Epicor 9. The thing is,I'm noticing the new procedure with the license management in the documentation. In previous version, the Educational database came with the license already in, but for this new version it looks like there is none. I'm seaching for the file on the DVD installation kit and on the Epicor site... but can not find it.
I've gotten to step 10 on the installation guide (Convert Your Database 8.03.40x to Epicor 9) and am puzzled by what is written and how that will convert the database.
Â
The 8.03 database is located at x:\epicor\mfgsys803\db
The 9.04 database is at x:\program files\Epicor Software\Epicor904\db. This database is created by the install program and appears to be an "empty" database.
Â
Instructions 10.1.1 and 10.1.2 talk about truncating the bi file using 10.1C proenv. truncating the 8.03 database? I did that in the pre-install steps.. Truncating the 9.04 database? Why? It appears to be an empty database.
Â
Instruction 10.1.3 now says to use PET to start the database to be converted to Epicor 9. So, I should use the 10.1B PET to start the 8.03 database? Or am I supposed to use the 10.1C PET to open the 8.03 database??
Â
Instruction 10.1.4 Tells how to launch Epicor 9 Schema Change. But this tool is ponting to x:\program files\Epicor Software\Epicor904\db. This is where the empty database that was created by Epicor 9 resides so it is already Epicor 9 capable.
Â
Sooo. Was there an instruction that I missed that said, "Copy all of your database files from the 8.03 location to the 9.04 db location? I tried that and upon starting the database with the 10.1C PET, tells me I have a "broker" error.
Â
Rats!! Are these instructions created by the Psychic Hotline ??
Â
Thanks
-KarlÂ

If you truncated prior to backup, then you do not need to truncate again,
what is missing is the step that tells you to back up the DB using 10.1B and
then restore it to the new location with 10.1C.
You then need to start it in the 10.1C PET and leave the 10.1B turned off.
