Epicor 9 pack slip question

If you're on version 9.05, try an updatable BAQ or dashboard in Epicor
instead of the web/etc methods required for earlier versions. Create a
BAQ on ShipHead with the PackNum & ShipComment (or whatever), and mark
the comment field as updatable. Test it in the Analyze tab - there's
your (ugly) manual method for go-live. Or it can be prettied up into a
dashboard.

Would you tell me how to do this? Our IT person is out for surgery until
next week and we are going live on June 18 and we just wanted to iron
out a few issues before that date. Is it very complicated?

When this happens (with invoicing comments, too), I have created a web
dashboard that permits direct entry into the comments fields bypassing
Vantage's lock-down of that screen. That's the only solution I know.

Subject: [Vantage] Re: MRP question

I usually set it for date of the next work day.
Below is text copied from the help screen:

Schedule Start Date
The date to be used for the start of job scheduling and MRP planning. If
a
forward scheduled job has a start date that falls before this date, then
this date will be used as the scheduled start date instead.

A scheduling method where you use a job's Start Date to calculate when
the
job should end. The Start Date is used as the beginning point; the job's
operation date intervals are then added together (or evaluated together
if
they are concurrent operations) to calculate the Due Date.

If scheduling in the past is not allowed (see Allow Historical Dates
below),
and a backward scheduled job is scheduled to start before this entered
Start
Date, the job will be scheduled forward using this date as the start
date.

A scheduling method where you use a job's Due Date to calculate when the
job
should begin. The scheduling engine uses the Required Date and subtracts
the
Receive days to get the Due Date.

This date is also the first date on which MRP plans. For example, if
this
date is two days in the future from now, and it is run now, then today
and
tomorrow are considered "past" for MRP purposes.

Our Progress database is reaching a size limit. In the past, we have had a database engineer work on this for us but he has since moved on and the company he worked for has gone out of business. We are in need to "compact" our database again. Can anyone provide some help or point us in a direction of help? Version of Vantage: 5.00.348, Version of Progress: 9.1A

It's a progress option, not an Epicor option. I'm pretty sure it's in OE9,
I'll look and see if I can find it.

That said, you're machine isn't on FAT32 is it? If so, you're not gonna be
able to go over 2gb anyway.

Progress didn't have a switch for OE9...but you were able to split certain files into extents, if I remember correctly.

allow it grow over 2gb.

Vantage 6.1 on Progress 9.1D Full allows this.

Vantage 5.1 on Progress 9.1C Not sure.

The database will log and entry when starting.

"Large database file access has been enabled. (9426)"

Plan b - you can break up the database in to multiple extents.

Plan C - do a dump and load to gain extra space.

With version 5.0 you would use "Extents". Look in your DB folder for a file with the same name as your db but with an .st extension. This file will list your current db extents. It should look something like this:

#
b D:\EPIC50\VANTAGE\DB\vantage.b1
#
d "Schema Area":6,32 D:\EPIC50\VANTAGE\DB\vantage.d1 f 1960016
d "Schema Area":6,32 D:\Epic50\Vantage\Db\vantage.d2

Do a Google search for "Progress db extents" should yield the information you will need.

The process for adding multiple extents is:

1. Stop the DB.
2. Backup the DB.
3. Delete all of the DB files EXCEPT the Structure Template (.st)
4. Edit the .st file by copying the first line of the data extents and pasting it below to create a second line.
5. Change the new line to "vantage.d2"
6. Change the last data line to "vantage.d3"
7. Use CreateDB to create a database with multiple extents from the revised .st
8. Restore over the new DB from the backup
9. Restart the DB

Piece of cake.

Do these extents have any affect on performance??

The Purchasing/Manufacturing Manager asked me to ask a question about MRP in Epicor 9.05. When she is running the MRP report there is a date called "scheduled start day". She has been leaving it set to the current date. Is that what everyone else does or does anyone ever set it do a past date? Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Check your progress version, if it's new enough there is a switch to
allow it grow over 2gb.

How big of a limit is this?

When we were on Vista 8, there was a 2GB limit, and we were just able to
flip a switch to allow it to grow past that size. Don't know if that's
relevant for you or not...

I usually set it for date of the next work day.
Below is text copied from the help screen:

Schedule Start Date
The date to be used for the start of job scheduling and MRP planning. If a forward scheduled job has a start date that falls before this date, then this date will be used as the scheduled start date instead.

A scheduling method where you use a job's Start Date to calculate when the job should end. The Start Date is used as the beginning point; the job's operation date intervals are then added together (or evaluated together if they are concurrent operations) to calculate the Due Date.

If scheduling in the past is not allowed (see Allow Historical Dates below), and a backward scheduled job is scheduled to start before this entered Start Date, the job will be scheduled forward using this date as the start date.

A scheduling method where you use a job's Due Date to calculate when the job should begin. The scheduling engine uses the Required Date and subtracts the Receive days to get the Due Date.

This date is also the first date on which MRP plans. For example, if this date is two days in the future from now, and it is run now, then today and tomorrow are considered "past" for MRP purposes.

They can significantly improve performance but in common practice with Vantage they provide very little improvement. The improvement can be obtained from two distinct features. First, because the initial extents are fixed size ( as denoted by the "f" in the .st), the OS does not have to dynamically allocate disk space which always involves some overhead. Second, and more importantly, you can allocate the extents to separate disks or, indeed, whole i/o subsystems.

In practice, however, placing a single dynamic extent on a well constructed I/O array will give you a much simpler configuration to manage particularly for databases of the size usually encountered in this market.

Sometimes we have to make a change to the pack slip because a customer forget to let us know they needed information on the pack slip which is also our cert. I have not found a way to add new comments to a pack slip that has already been printed and shipped. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

I usually set it for date of the next work day.
Below is text copied from the help screen:

Schedule Start Date
The date to be used for the start of job scheduling and MRP planning. If a forward scheduled job has a start date that falls before this date, then this date will be used as the scheduled start date instead.

When this happens (with invoicing comments, too), I have created a web
dashboard that permits direct entry into the comments fields bypassing
Vantage's lock-down of that screen. That's the only solution I know.

Sometimes we have to make a change to the pack slip because a customer
forget to let us know they needed information on the pack slip which is also
our cert. I have not found a way to add new comments to a pack slip that has
already been printed and shipped. Any help with this would be greatly
appreciated.

Subject: [Vantage] Re: MRP question

I usually set it for date of the next work day.
Below is text copied from the help screen:

Schedule Start Date
The date to be used for the start of job scheduling and MRP planning. If a
forward scheduled job has a start date that falls before this date, then
this date will be used as the scheduled start date instead.

A scheduling method where you use a job's Start Date to calculate when the
job should end. The Start Date is used as the beginning point; the job's
operation date intervals are then added together (or evaluated together if
they are concurrent operations) to calculate the Due Date.

If scheduling in the past is not allowed (see Allow Historical Dates below),
and a backward scheduled job is scheduled to start before this entered Start
Date, the job will be scheduled forward using this date as the start date.

A scheduling method where you use a job's Due Date to calculate when the job
should begin. The scheduling engine uses the Required Date and subtracts the
Receive days to get the Due Date.

This date is also the first date on which MRP plans. For example, if this
date is two days in the future from now, and it is run now, then today and
tomorrow are considered "past" for MRP purposes.

Would you tell me how to do this? Our IT person is out for surgery until next week and we are going live on June 18 and we just wanted to iron out a few issues before that date. Is it very complicated?

When this happens (with invoicing comments, too), I have created a web
dashboard that permits direct entry into the comments fields bypassing
Vantage's lock-down of that screen. That's the only solution I know.
