Epicor 9 Solution Manager

Thanks for validating

I have really only used it for RDDs and Quick Searches

I still use the old fashioned way for import/export customizations dashboards baqs and BPMs

My experience: Sometimes it works, but more often than not it hasn't.

Being on the technical side I was EXTREMELY excited when I first learned
about this tool because it solved all of the problems with moving things
into production in an orderly, consistent and efficient manner, but I
just feel as though this wasn't really tested thoroughly enough.

When I first contacted Epicor support about the problems that I was
having they asked me why I hadn't tested it first, had I tried several
scenarios, told me that this was an undocumented feature and then
"fessed" up and said that there are some known issues.

Here are some issues that we've had with solution manager.

Customizations being imported with the same name but don't overwrite the
one that is there, instead bringing in another copy so you then have to
remove the previous customization with the same name. Unfortunately the
old customization is still being called so you have to remove the old
one in order for the new one to work.

RDD's that import only the name but none of the "guts". At least you can
go in afterwards and delete the blank one.

BAQ reports that import the report name but again no "guts" and you
can't delete the name because you can't pull it up in the baq report
definition

Bringing in menu's that then can't be changed so you end up having to
delete the menu and recreate from scratch

Hello Epicor 9.04.505 users

Need some clarification on
How to import a solution
I have always simply Actions Imported and have not had any problems on
previous 904.504b

At 9.04.505 When importing a .sol file got an error. Of negative -1
index or something like that; don't have it in front of me But It was
imported ok I think

Just was also wondering if you imported another solution with same mods
like customizations , RDDs, BPMs does it overwritethe first one? Because
I had two with identical mods? Does all of them just list all the mods
in the current system?
I guess I just need a quick good overview on the tool if anyone on here
has used it. I've exported and imported without too many problems but at
505 things were a little flaky
Thanks
