Epicor 904 Schema Change Freezing

You need to be looking at the Process tab, not the "application" tab on the
task manager.

The "Application" is not responding because the application you see is not
actually doing anything, it's just a drapery hanging up to make the window
look pretty while all the work is going on in the background.

Thanks for the responses.

In the task manager ProWin32.exe is running and says it is not responding.
Memory usage steadily increases and CPU usage gets close to 100%. The
database bi file also grows. Once I just let the schema change application
go and it eventually stopped on its own. When I did this the bi file grew to
over 2 GB in size. I think it may have stopped when it ran out of memory.

Also, during phase 1 of the process when the schema change program scrolls
through the database tables and fields loading the table definitions it
always gets hung up early in the process usually stopping with tables
beginning with the letter A.

Hi All,

I have a test VMWare virtual machine running Windows 2008 Server 64 bit that has Epicor 904.507A running Progress. I am trying to load a backup copy of a Progress Vantage 803.409C database and convert it to 904. When I attempt to run the change schema program it always locks up during phase 1 of the schema change process when the program is loading table definitions. I truncated the bi file after I restored my 409C database to it thinking that was the problem, but I still can't get beyond the loading of table definitions. So far tech support hasn't been much help. Has anyone in the group had this problem before?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

I agree here, how much time have you given it? Its still running even though it doesn't look like it. Running a schema change took me about 6 hours and most of the time you cant see what its doing, it appears to be frozen when in fact its not.

It may look locked up, but chances are it is not.

Open up the Task Manager, and look for the ProWin32.exe, if there is
processor activity on it then it has not actually locked up on you and you
just need to wait it out.

It will vary in total time from an hour to up to 6 or so depending on how
many steps since last update to the schema and the size of your database.

Prowin32 will stop processor usage once in awhile for a few seconds but it
should normally bounce between 3 and 6% on a regular basis during the
process if it is working.

There's a good chance it's just taking a long time. I ran though this
process several times developing my cutover plan. It took just over 11
hours to change my schema from 9.04 (32 bit) to 9.05 (64 bit).
