Epicor - Weight Verification - What Make and Model of Scale works with Kinetic

We are trying to use the weight verification on outgoing parts. We need to connect a USB scale to the workstation running Epicor and then have it read actual weight from external scale and input the weight data into the program.

Any help from any others who have pulled this off?

Thanks,

Greg

There should be a thread/wiki on here of how to connect from SaaS to on premise devices and get info from them. I feel like it’s scattered. There’s definitely threads on doing this… maybe not a scale, but

Unless it’s changed the workstation only works with serial scales. Each scale is specific so you’ll need the serial info from the manufacture. But once you get it connected it works without much issue. We’ve used scales through Epicor workstations for 6-7 years.

In kinetic they now allow USB scales I believe?

For a serial scale, it would only use COM ports on the local computer and I do not think Epicor can use COM Ports???

So would @GKoenighain just need to trace out how to make that call and they are good?

We tried a USB Fairbanks scale and it does not work. Any other Make that is known to work?

Not being a smartaleck but how’s Kinetic going to know where that workstation-associated USB scale is actually connected? Only available for on-prem?

John, I was going to ask @chaddb the same thing because I don’t use scales in cloud.

Epicor 1100% can use COM ports. That’s how all of our scales are connected even in 24.2

We don’t use them either but that kinda jumped out off the page.

The edge agent.

Yeah that’s what I thought too Kevin, I just couldn’t say because I don’t have a scale enabled there and have never used scale functionality in cloud.

Should work through the Edge Agent. We are on-prem so it’s pretty easy. I didn’t see if this was for on-prem or Cloud.

Would you have to use a middleman program such as the old-time program “WinWedge” to get the data translated?

For COM port you mean? I’m pretty sure it comes back already translated if the settings are set correctly on the workstation right?

We have moved to all Mettler Toledo scales over serial. But we did use Fairbanks scales over serials.

Interesting stuff…we use system weights (fixed at the part level, standard packing quantities) and not scales…

Comes back translated.
