Epicor9.05.702 Moving to direct from Vantage 6

I believe the trial license only works with the "Demonstration Database" not
your actual DB.

The license uses an algorithm that uses the expiration date and your company
ID as the keys to generate the license.

If the company ID doesn't match the one in the license, then it won't work.

So I got the trial license but it checks the server side license too and
fails me. Tried importing with admin console with no success and the license
is sitting in my client directory.

Greetings,

As this is my first post I will begin by prefacing that I am teaching my self everything about this ERP solution and are looking for any tips and tricks that may help me on my journey. I was hired 4 months ago, introduced to the Vantage 6 environment and have been building a knowledge base since. Upon discovering that I could install and configure the Epicor 9 software I decided to spearhead an upgrade from V6 to the most current version. I have spent the last few months reading documentation for E9 and have more than a few questions on best practices and training strategies.

For the purposes of this post I will ask if it is possible to use ODBC to transfer data direct from V6 to E9.

Note: I have installed the 64bit version of E9 and V6 is 32 bit based.

Note2: I plan on using a third party program to store the data in an intermediate step if necessary. (Access or SQL Server)

Note3: I realize that there are massive schema differences between the two versions but if the information is stored in an intermediate container then I can define temp tables and programmatically slice&Dice the data to conform to the new schema correct?

Note4: I have already succeeded in transferring data out of V6 into MSAccess and will be setting up ODBC to the new E9 Server today. Ill post my findings after I attempt a basic transfer.

Thanks!

-Josh
I would highly recommend you get DMT and use it to import the data into 9
it goes through the business logic and validates and makes sure your data
isn't going to be causing any problems

Having just gone thru migration from a previous system, I would second the use of DMT. There are other data tables or defaults that are populated by the BO and that could cause a lot of issues if you just hit the tables. There is also the Patchfld table which holds data that will appear in datasets elsewhere.

Plus DMT is easy to use if you already have the ODBC setup from the previous system.

If you don't have it in your install files, then you can get it from epicweb and a demo license to try it out is available.

You know, I requested that Software in our last contract negotiation, I don't know why my purchasing manager removed it from the list, or maybe it was my CAM... In any case all the CAM's are getting back from Nashville today and I have already left him 2 emails, and a couple voicemails guess its time for a 3rd haha.

Full documentation, dmtdiff tool and demo license are on epicweb support site
It is in the Epicor DMT menu node above where you would normally download the software
