Recently Epicor has introduced a new utility Called Data Management Tool (DMT). I am considering the possibility of using that to upgrade my db to 9.0. Does any one have experience with this tool?

I am currently at 6.1 and know that this tool can only be used at 8.03 or higher. So it would require converting the db from 6.1 to 8.03 in the conventional method, then using the tool to "selectively" export/import records into 9.x.

Any input or advice concerning the tool or the upgrade method described would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

To the best of my knowledge, DMT does not Export data - you would have to use BAQs for that. DMT does not Work with all tables I'm not sure what you would do for the excluded tables (my experience is limited to 8.03.405)

It is an excellent tool for performing mass updates to records such as supplier group as someone posted yesterday....
It can import data into new db as well, but there are setups that still need to be done using the Vantage/Epicor apps.

Your CAM should be able to supply you with documents to review

Hi

We have used this tool for quite a while and found it to be excellent, we are are on 8.03.405a and have recently used it to import new BOM and BOO structures as well as part revisions etc. We have also found it to be very quick at importing the data. It doesnt do all the tables in Vantage but it covers most of the major tables. Most of all it is very easy to use, I highly recommend it.

Originally we exported the data from our old non Epicor ERP system into excel spreadsheets in the format vantage likes then used this tool to import into Vantage. Now we just create the data in excel that we need and import into Vantage. We have also used this to make changes to the data on mass, you still need to export it out of Vantage / Vista first.

Depends upon how many users you're licensed for. Also it increases your
yearly support contract by 20% of original cost.

I'm not the one since I haven't gotten myself trained up on DMT, but if anyone needs a good lead for some help with this tool I've got a good source.
