Epicweb Online Classes

The online classes are the same as the self paced guides. they just have
someone walking through all the steps in a video like format in the online
class.

What is your opinion of these online classes? We don't subscribe to any education package, and training is becoming an issue. Most people present at the time of the original implementation are not here anymore and a lot of knowledge failed to transfer. We're considering subscribing to the classes. What has been your experiences, positive or negative?
Thanks,
Jared
The online classes are "OK". The problem I have always had is getting
the users' undivided attention and genuine desire to learn the product.

Nothing beats internal, live training using your own data with someone
knowledgeable of your business model and nuances.

We have people familiar with how to do things take some time, get some screen captures while they are working, and throw together a document showing how a particular process is done. If you are into lean manufacturing, this is basic "map a process, make a standard work document" stuff. This captures the knowledge. The added advantage is that some of the wasteful parts of certain administrative processes suddenly become visible, and you have a standard to improve against.

That's the chicken or the egg right there, how do we train the trainer? The most helpful suggestion I've gotten thus far is to try and get 30 days of online classes opened up when we renew maintenance, and then download the self-paced guides. What are these PDF's, PowerPoint's? But I have been told by at least 2 people off forum the self-paced guides are more helpful than the online classes.

We are working on our implementation now, but I have already experimented with a couple of different learning tools. We tried the online and embedded courses (Epicor 9). I didn't find them very helpful at all. There wasn't a whole lot of helpful or applicable information in them, and they didn't engage our users. I haven't tried any live/class room training, but I'm guessing it still won't be extremely helpful as they won't be using our company's data or setup.

What I have found helpful is creating our own training. I use Adobe Captivate which allows me to record what I am doing. I can either record something that the user will just watch, or I can make the recording interactive so the user will be doing all the clicking and data entry.
