Error message after installing Edge agent

Hello everyone,

Many employees at our company have installed and are using Edge Agent. But, some employees are getting this error message when they try to open the classic menus after installation.
There were no errors during the installation process. When I try to open the menu after finishing the installation, it doesn’t open and this error message appears.
Why am I getting this message? Is there anything else I need to configure?

Did you install the smart client first and launch it once (or copy the entire client folder over) on these machines?

I installed the smart client first and ran it once on this device. What’s even stranger is that everyone installed the agent the same way, and this only happened to this employee. So everyone was watching and reinstalling it and everyone was weird.

If you launch the specific classic item from the smart client, does it launch? Just brainstorming now as my first and only real thought was that it couldn’t find the local client.

It happens with all classic items. Edge agent was installed, so I also checked that the agent icon appeared. Everyone else is running well, but seeing that this person is not the only one, I doubt it’s an issue with personalization, permissions, or PC settings.

Have you tried installing as “administrator”?
I have not seen this yet - so I am guessing.

We all installed them as “administrators.” We all installed them the same way, and they all run well, and only a few employees have that issue.

Do you get the Print option to print directly from Kinetic in the browser (assuming you use Client Printing and not Server Printing)? If you only get the print preview then that would also point to Edge not seeing the agent properly.

There is also a log folder and the log web UI can be accessed by right clicking on the agent icon and selecting it.

We don’t have the Print option to print directly from Kinetic in the browser. We don’t use any directly print at all.

Even on the stations that can launch classic, the print icon is greyed out? I think that probably means that you have Client Side Printing turned off and you are setup for Server Side.

Uninstall, blow out the directory. Reinstall.

No sense debugging the problem yet.

IIR that version 616is the second latest version 644 is the latest. Based on that image I feel that the edge agent is trying to update and failing. If you are running 2025.2 in the edge agent configuration/maintenance menu item, you can select the version and download it from the overflow menu, I would try installing that version on the problematic client, installing with run as administrator the first time.
