ERROR: Run in preview mode from System Monitor for details. Invalid printer specified

We’ve been using the same printer and crystal report for around 5 years and recently we started getting this error. The really strange thing is after reinstalling the printer in Windows and rebooting it started working, then a couple days later same issue. Another tech reported patching and rebooting and it started working. Today same issue, rebooting had no impact. I’ve also tried reinstalling the printer and rebooting with no luck. I found in Notepad I can print to the label printer without issues.

This seems to imply the problem is with Epicor or Windows not the printer or the network.

If from the the system monitor (where I see this error) I click print preview crystal opens and shows the label with no errors. If I then try to print from crystal reports I get an error The Handle is Invalid

Any suggestions on where to go from here as I’m spinning my wheels?

You don’t say what version of Windows. If it’s Windows 11, you juat might be running to incompatibility issues.

Might seem like an odd suggestion but try setting a default printer in Windows. We’ve occasionally had issues where the default printer was lost and Access reports wouldn’t generate - even if it was a print-to-PDF email scenario.

Thanks for the suggestions. I’ll try setting as default… We are running windows 11.

Oddly we found from notepad we can print reliably, the issue seems to be specific to Epicor… It’s a Zebra Gx430t printer connected via ethernet. I’m going to try connecting via USB next…
