Error while posting WIP/INV transactions

The error was most likely "Lock table overflow, increase -L on server
(915)"

To find advice for increasing -L, search the Epicor Answerbook for
article 3186MPS. Short answer - you have to find the parameter "# Lock
table entries" in the Progress Explorer Tool, and increase it from the
default of 8192 up to say 20,000 or 25,000. If you still have problems
then try even higher.

The other approach is to break the WIP capture into smaller chunks,
which is what you did - so don't be alarmed that the error message
disappeared!

1st

Is there a need for dot-matrix printers with Vantage? Is anyone that
uses vantage using dot-matrix printers, and if so what for? The
system we are replacing use dot-matrix prints for everything, from
reports to checks.

2nd

How are people printing checks (payroll, invoice payments, check book)
with vantage? Again we currently use dot-matrix printers for checks,
we also manually hand write checks for things like COD, COA, etc...
What are other people doing for things like that? Can you print one
check from Vantage at a time for things like COD, COA; if you can how
long does it take from start to finish to get a check.

We use laser printers I also print the checks from vantage for cods etc it
only takes about a minute to open a goup and issue a check Same with
payroll.

We have one user who does all of the checks regardless of what it is for and
that person has a standalone laser printer installed. The only thing the
printer holds are checks. You can manually do checks that are not invoiced
fairly easily. The process only takes a minute.

We order the blank check forms and use a regular laser printer.

For one-off checks it is very quick and easy (2-3 minutes) thru manual
payment entry.

We do not use dot matrix for anything.

We (Vantage 5.2) occasionally use a dot matrix to print Inventory Tags
(Inventory Management/Count Entry). They are a 3 3/4 X 9 1/2 tractor fed 2
copy NCR form bought from Epicor. They have been a real pain to print
because even with a good dot matrix printer to handle the heavy print stock,
it routinely misfed, so someone had to watch the printer all the time and
help pull the tag stock through the printer.

We got rid of the last dot matrix printer on Vantage last January when we converted to multiple laser copies of PO's and greatly reduced the number of copies needed. The biggest impediment to getting rid of multi-part forms was the need to "file" a printed copy. It took me three years to convince people if they need a copy they can re-print one from Vantage the looks just like the original - better than a NCR paper copy for sure.

We still have one dot matix printer for a very critical function that a laser printer can't handle as well. It prints on white tractor feed fanfold paper the "Happy Birthday so-and-so" banners for the lunch room. When it dies I am waiting to see how we justify replacing it. ;)

We had an error (something about needing to expand a table?) while posting
WIP/INV transactions yesterday. Unfortunately we did not get the exact
message and we were able to post by breaking the batch into smaller date
segments.

Has anybody seen anything like this and have a clue how to fix it?
