Excel external data source

I've found recently in troubleshooting some other ODBC connections, that in
some cases you can switch drivers without a hitch, but when using different
drivers, sometimes they use title case, while others use all caps for field
titles. Some drivers handle SQL statements slightly differently, and the
only way to transfer queries from one driver to another is to start from
scratch

I was able to switch between two different microsoft drivers fine, but when
I switched to merant driver using the same name, Crystal crashed.

Of course, my experience was with ODBC drivers for dbf files, so may not
apply.
We are using progress 4gl programs to create DBF's of the data we need, and
launch a compiled crystal report against those DBF's. Things run smoother
when connecting to the DBF through an ODBC driver.

This approach takes more time to setup, but eliminates the ODBC back door to
the main DB

Dan,
I have found in Crystal, that if the NAME of the data source is the
same
(let's say I switch from ODBC in 3.0 to 5.0), then I don't have to change
the data source in Crystal. Otherwise, you would need to do some
switching.
I wonder if you named the SQL92 driver the same as what your Merant WAS,
then it might work. I'm just shooting from the hip here.

I have some Excel 97 queries written that connected to my 3.0 database
using
the Merant 3.5 ODBC. Can I change the data source to use the Progress
SQL92
driver on existing queries?

Thanks
