A quick question for Excel gurus...

We have two excel documents. Please allow me to simplify for
purposes of my question:

Document 1

Table Data
A 1
B 2
C 3

Document 2

Information Table Data

None A

I want to be able to type a table number (A) in document 2 and have
it look up the value of DATA in Doucment 1 for Table A (the matching
table) and fill in the value of Table A Data in the Data portion of
Document 2.

Does anyone know how to do this in Excel? Please e-mail me direct at
judy.havlik@.... Thanks so much.

Sincerely,
Judy Havlik

You hit the nail on the head... look up. More precisely, use the vlookup
function, like this:

(Assuming the columns in document2 are A, B, and C)

C2: =vlookup(B2,document1!$A$2:$B$4,2,true)

Note that for this to work, the lookup table in document 1 must be sorted in
ascending order by the Table field.

I attached a sample sheet which won't show up on the list, but should show
up in the message that went directly to Judy.
