Even if you are updating user defined fields in a table were records already exist you should be fine.
Anyone have details on creating an external app to connect to UDTable, find record and update a field. We want to create a small app where the user inputs a "UD" record number and a value to populate a VB field. Once they transmit it will connect to the DB find the record & update the table. Can I just use ODBC since this is just a UD Table?
Michael,

Yes, you'll be safe if you are only playing with a UD table with ODBC.

I have a SQL database and I have a whole entire intranet site writing to
various UD tables and then I use that data within Vantage in various
capacities.

Anyone have details on creating an external app to connect to UDTable,
find record and update a field. We want to create a small app where the
user inputs a "UD" record number and a value to populate a VB field.
Once they transmit it will connect to the DB find the record & update
the table. Can I just use ODBC since this is just a UD Table?
