F6 Print key not working

BINGO!! Thanks Jim (and Lydia) that worked. Somebody reassociated all pic files to something else on that computer. The OPEN action was OK, but the Print and Printto actions had been changed.

Chalk another one up to eGroups.

Just having the bmp associated with paint (double clicking opens file in
paint) has not been enough in my experience. Once the bmp file association
is changed in the registry even when the "Open with" is set back to paint it
still fails to work. Here is what I did to get it to work again.

You may want to back up the registry before doing this. In windows 98 and
NT open the registry and go to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT and scroll down to .bmp and
delete the entry. Open Explorer or My Computer, click on view, then folder
options, then File types. Click New File type. Type "Bitmap Image" as the
Description. Click the New button. Action is "Open". Command line is
"C:\Program Files\Accessories\MSPAINT.EXE" with the quotes (assuming this is
the location of your paint program. Click OK. Click New again. Action
should be "Print". Use the same command line adding a "/p" at the end.
Click Ok. Click New one more time. Action is "printto" command is the same
command line but with a "/pt %1 %2 %3 %4" at the end.

This has always fixed it for me. One quick way to check if the association
is not correct is to create a bitmap file. While the file is closed right
click the file and see if Print is an option on the pop up menu. If you can
click the print button and dump the file to the printer then Vantage should
work.

Anyhow, this worked for me. There probably is a better way to do it but I
haven't found one. Hope this helps.

This must be on the right track because someone changed the association of
.gif files to something else. However, the .bmp files are still associated
with MS Paint. Any other ideas in this area I might be missing?

This has happened to me every time software is installed that associate
bitmaps (bmp) to itself and away from MS Paint. If I associate the bmp
files back to Paint the button works again.

We have one workstation (Win95) that is unable to use the F6 key any longer to print Vantage screens. Anyone know why? It worked yesterday.

Troy-

This also happened to me when I installed a scanner-it had it's own software
and re-directed .bmp files and .jpg files. Anything new installed on that
computer?
