Does any one have Field Service and Renewal Contract Licenses?

We bought field service and then found out that we need to buy Renewal contracts as well if we want to renew warranties when they expire. It is not outlined in the demo that renewal contract license is needed but it is clearly needed to complete the course.

Does anyone know what else Renewal contracts is linked to or used for?

Same thing happened to me at my old job. We got field service thinking it would do renewals, but it would not in a continuous manner.

Quick question, why would you want to renew a warranty? I could understand selling a warranty extension after the initial warranty period ended, but I would not want to continue the original warranty. If you do extend the original warranty, the contract renewal module will not do that. The renewal module is only for service contracts (or some people might call them extended warranties).

And all the module does is extend contracts. Sure you can have alerts and reports and stuff to help manage them, but at the end of the day, it extends contracts.

I will say that it is worth it though as the module is short change.

We heavily rely on service contracts in our business. We generate a renewal when there is a change to a service contract (annual price increase, billing frequency, adding or removing parts from the contract). However, the way the two are related quickly creates complexity in BAQs / queries because they are mirrored tables (ie:FSContHd->FSRenewal, FSContDt->FSRenewalDt,FSContSN->FSRenewalSN).

If you use the renewal module, you have the same ID for the original term and all subsequent terms.

We renew the warranty every year for the products we sell. The technology we sell that has a warranty gets updated firmware and other benefits as re-calibration. We would do service on that set of equipment. We treat it as additional service contracts every year for a serial numbered part.
