Fingerprint readers for shift clock in

We've been using and reselling biometric fingerprint scanners for several
years and, in point of fact, most biometric scanners don't actually "take a
picture" of your fingerprint at all for obvious security and privacy
concerns. They do, instead, convert the imprint of your finger into a data
stream, encrypt it and send it to the recognition engine which will and then
compare it to its database of encrypted streams to determine a match.
Because of this two phase encryption, it is almost impossible to decrypt the
contents of the database to recover the imprint.

Cleanliness can definitely be a concern, particularly during cold and flu
season but, as you have found, hand sanitizers are available.

I'm curious as to the religious objection to fingerprint scanning as
distinguished from, for example, having to have your picture taken for your
drivers license?

We've found that, in most instances, the objections were a ruse to disguise
the dissatisfaction over the fact that "buddy clock in's" were impossible.

We have one that measures the fingers. Some had objection for religious
reasons (which must be accomodated by law). Most do not like it because of
the cleanliness. They know not everyone washes thier hands when they
should. We do have hand sanitiser by the clock.

I think many, including myself would object to fingerprint reading.

Has anyone implemented or explored the possiblity of using a fingerprint
reader to have production workers clock in / out of their shift? If so, can
you provide details such as vendor selected for the techology and software
used and how the solution has been working for you?

Thanks in advance,

Mike.

We had biometric fingerprint readers and were not able to use them
because after registering
Individuals, in some cases, the scanner would "forget" who the finger
print belonged to. They had
To be re-registrered time and again. We finally went with a proimity
reader that contains the
Users data. Employees use them to enter the building and to clock in.
We swapped the clocks about 5 years ago, so possibly by now, they've
gotten the fingerprint readers
To be more reliable.

Our time clocks are ip so they are part of the network the pictures are
