It's quite easy once you see how it's done.
I know of no good documentation but the way I learned was analyzing and reverse engineering the standard Employee Efficiency Report (EmplEff.rpt).
The Employee Efficiency Report is driven by a BAQ vs a Report Data Definition.
Take a look at the BAQ, BAQ Report, Crystal Reports file and the XML data.
In particular, in the EmplEff.rpt, look at the formulas Group1 and Group2 and you can see how you dynamically assign groupings.
It's pretty cool and clever.

Subject: [Vantage] Formulas for BAQ Report Sorts and Filters
I've created several BAQ (v.8.03.407b) reports that use the same data but since I havne't been able to figure out the sorting and/or filtering formals I just duplicate the reports and change the groups in Crystal and so I have 5 Win-Lost reports just grouped by different things(by sales rep, by customer, etc). Does anyone have any good documention on how to write the sort and/or filter formulas in Crystal so that I can use the sorts and filters to drive the grouping of my reports? Thanks
Emily
