Freight Charges

After 9 years of using Vantage you learn a short cut or two!

But you're right after 500 clicks it does become moot...except for the OSHA Dr. who treats the shipping clerk for carpal tunnel.

Not sure where you are getting 5. It really does not matter at this
point but maybe you aren't counting menu selections to get there or
drop down box selections. In the end they are all clicks.
1. Header Menu Selection
2. Misc Charge Selection
3. Add Button Selection
4. Charge Drop Down Box Triangle Selection
5-6. Selection itself (Double-click)
7. Enter number
8. OK button
9. Close Button

times 100

Unless you are entering it in a different manner. You are probably
not counting everything. It is a moot point from here.

We'll see what the extra shipping modules contribute from here.

We are in the middle of a Vantage 6.1 implementation. In our old
system freight was always handled in the header of the Shipment
Entry. It looks (unless I'm missing something) like the primary way
to handle freight in Vantage in with a miscellaneous charge.

How are you all handling freight?

Thanks,
Ross
We add freight as a misc charge to the last line of the shipment (so it's
the last thing on the invoice)

COLLECT.......whenever possible!

But we use the Misc. Charge when we have to bill it. I suppose one could
add it to the sales order but that would be ugly, in my opinion. Doesn't
6.1 have an "Advanced" shipping module?

Sure they have that module. It costs quite a bit and I was hoping
that something as simple as a shipping charge would be a one field
entry type of deal. I don't know how Advanced Shipping handles the
charge either. If it auto adds as a miscellaneous charge or puts
something somewhere else, I don't know.

Thanks,
Ross

Maybe I'm missing something here but we've been adding Freight as a Miscellaneous Charge for years with no problems. You can control whether or not shipping personnel have access to a specific misc. charge in the misc. charge master file. In this case, just add Freight as a misc. charge and give access to shipping.

Has worked without a hitch for us.

I don't think you are missing anything. All I was asking was where
you enter it...because, in our current system you just enter freight
into the shipper header, which to my way of looking at things is much
more convenient as you are passing through the fields. Adding
miscellaneous charges is 8 extra mouse clicks and a numeric entry per
shipper. And with 100 packages a day (which is still small) that is
a lot of extra click-overhead, if you will. So it just struck me as
kind of an odd way to handle it. But, my question is answered and I
appreciate everyone's time.

This question piqued my curiosity so I went into a shipper and was able to add freight with 5 mouse clicks and an amount entered. I can see your point in a high volume shipping department.

You may want to consider contacting Epicor Custom Programming to get a quote for a mod to add freight to the header.
