Fresh Install 8.03.400 - Sanity Check Please

Thanks Mark. Anything that avoids needless steps (and opportunities for migrations snafus) will help a lot.

You should be able to load 8.03.403 out of the box. You'll need the OE101B
disks for that. You can download an 8.03.40X training database from the
download section of the Epicweb website along with SP400 and 404A.

You'll need your serial numbers to activate the training database on your
system.

If your database doesn't start, move a copy of Proword.2 to your OE101B folder
from your OE100B folder.

Oh, if it's a really new server, then you may need your Crystal X1 R2 disks as
well.

I have resumed the quest for 8.x. I have fired up our Vantage test server and am ready to install. Our long term intention is to treat 8.x as a completely fresh new implementation and pre-load what we can via Service Connect. Mainly because we are completely restructuring the Chart of Accounts and probably our departmental costing scheme.

My preliminary goal is to install 8.03 and the "out of the box" test database for people to play with for a month or two and get familiar with the differences from 6.1. I will patch it up to 8.03.40x (latest & greatest) and turn them loose when I go on vacation last half of April. When I get back we can discuss which business processes can benefit from 8.x feature and customization.

Just checking that all I need is the 8.03 disks and the Progress 10.0b disks. The only training database disk I have is 8.00.705. I'll have to load this and convert it right? Will this require starting by loading 8.00? If I went out and bought Vantage today I would not have to load 8.00 to get to 8.03.x would I?

Any other hidden gotchas I should watch for to get a plain vanilla test system running?

Hi Todd,

You should actually get the v8.03.40x disks from Epicor. These
include OpenEdge 10.1B and, I think, a new version of the Crystal
runtime files.

When we upgraded from .305 to .403, we treated it as a fresh install.
We completely uninstalled OE10.0b and Vantage and installed the new
versions, then just converted the database. Worked fine.

(Bear in mind that, from previous postings, you cannot convert your
6.1 DB directly to 8.03.40x).

You may also need someone to look at configuring the new version of
OpenEdge to best suit your setup.

Regarding the training db, I would download the latest one from the
Epicor download site.

I'll have to load this and convert it right? Will this require
starting by loading 8.00? If I went out and bought Vantage today I
would not have to load 8.00 to get to 8.03.x would I?
