On Friday, it’s EpiUsers Frideas Day! Have you been to the Epicor Ideas Portal recently? If so, are there some ideas you want to encourage other users to vote for? Maybe want to add comments to an existing idea?
AppStudio - Layout Pane DOM Tree
Drag n Drop Layout editors are nice until they’re a drag. Sometimes components don’t drag sometimes they don’t drop. Sometimes it takes several tries to move components around.
A common UX to accompany this is a full DOM tree listing all containers and components in a nested fasion with move up / down capability at a minimum. The Layout Pane in App Studio would be a nice place to add this feature. Include, add/remove, drag n drop capabilties in the pane as a bonus.
Further, since there’s no tab order support in Kinetic, containers and location is the only way to control the tab order on a screen. Nested list format is a more certain visual control on tab order at design-time.
It’d be nice to gather up a bunch of AppStudio Fixes/Usability ideas to vote on. Usability/productivity/reliability vs client is a parity issue, is it not?
I haven’t made an official idea page about this, but what would everyone here think about the ability to change the order of context menus? I noticed that when I added a new context menu item, it was at the very bottom, but I want it somewhere in the middle so users don’t have to full screen every time. Is this already a feature or should an idea be made about this?
Same w Grid Views - reorder needed.
Publish a wrapper app for Kinetic to act like a traditional application. Related, display context clues in browser tab.
Add field help to context menu
I haven’t seen an idea for this nor know if there is a way to reorder context menus. I suggest you make an idea for this so we can vote on it.
Alright, a new idea was added for this. It looks like there were some other ideas like this that were expired.
Waiting for the idea to become publicly available.
This new review process has to be driving down engagement with ideas. People submit a lot of ideas when there’s been a thread where a lot of people are all thinking about the same problem, and by having to wait a week+ to see the idea that gets submitted because of that thread gives everyone time to get frustrated by a new problem and lose the opportunity to vote and add their feedback while it’s at the top of their minds.
It’s open for voting.
That’s my worry too. Seems they’re speeding up the review process though.
That’s definitely the fastest I’ve seen. Maybe they just take a week on ideas from @aosemwengie1
the idea is reviewed and approved for viewing. I also merged in an old expired idea (from 2020) which gave your idea 5 more votes. Let me know whenever you see an expired/duplicate idea, and i can merge the votes together.
I am typically the first reviewer for any “Kinetic” ideas, and I am trying to monitor and approve within a few hours (but at least the same day) of submission. It was the first thing I did today (even before getting onto EpiUsers), so it was approved within 11 minutes of it being added.
For those interested… here is what happens when I merge an idea… the old idea is marked as a “merged into other idea” and all the votes that were there are transported into the new idea. It makes the voting look a little wonky becuase there are 5 votes that happened before the idea was created. Taylor created the idea this morning at 6:05 AM my time, but there are votes going all the way back to 2020.
I’m fond of this one:
Display context clues in browser client tab names
Being able to work on multiple instances of a thing at once is a great feature of the browser client! Seeing which tab is which at a glance would make that even better.
Guess I’ll promote my idea for allowing PO Due Date changes without unapproving the PO:KIN-I-6528
Another great idea surrounding PO Dates (Adding Original Request Date): KIN-I-6513
New ideas do need some reality check housekeeping, it’s good that’s happening. Thank you!
Is there bandwidth for housekeeping existing ideas? Resources are finite, that’s life, and maybe that’s not in the cards. But otherwise, is there a constructive way we might flag cruft? For example, this one appears to have been delivered, and this one is ???.
