Wayne:

We manufacture hydraulic valves in So California. We used the inventory
count entry quite extensively in Vantage 3.0, but then moved on the ABC
cycle counting, so my experiences are with the prior version of Vantage.
That said, we used the count entry and really only had a few minor
problems-we wanted to change the positioning of fields on the count tags and
went through a lot of grief over it-I hear that they are now more readily
changed, but have no experience in 4. Also, the first time, we didn't
actually "freeze" all transactions and didn't know to tell the entry people
to watch for items that had transactions after the count so that created
some discrepancies-this was our fault. We ran a full physical quarterly for
a while and got very good at reconciling the inventory during that time.
Overall, the reporting is good and our biggest problem was with not being
able to read the handwriting of the people who actually counted the
inventory. Make sure to run the Print unreturned/Voided Tag report before
you make any entries-it's a great number control report.

Now that we have moved on to cycle counting we don't pull tags, I've made a
little report builder report to print out the items. We count a certain
number of items once a month and have a rotation through some bins that we
do on a weekly basis...Keeps the counts right, production control AND
accounting happy...that doesn't happen very often.

Feel free to contact me with other questions.
