FW: Problem running reports using Crystal Enterprise

The Crystal Management Console is only available through Crystal Enterprise as far as I'm aware. Actually, you might have the Crystal Enterprise disk with your CR Pro 8.5 software. The company that I worked for received Crystal Enterprise for free as a separate disk when they bought CR Pro 8.5. The disk was in the same packaging as CR Pro. I believe that Crystal Enterprise was intended to replace report executables that are put on user's workstations. Crystal Enterprise is integrated with IIS (or some other options) to be used as a report distribution tool. It uses your web browser to access the reports. It's a pretty cool tool!

As far as I'm aware, CR Pro does not have the feature to allow for "saving of the db password" when a user needs to access a report. The password is needed locally to pass the db information through ODBC. Crystal Enterprise, on the other hand, allows for storing of the password on the report level so that way the user does not need to enter it in (normally).

Is the Crystal Report Management Console only available on the
server?? We are using CR Pro 8.5 for Epicor. Does it have this
feature? I am looking for a place to enter the db password so the
user doesn't have to enter it each time they run a report...

We have recently installed a Crystal Enterprise web server and loaded a few
test reports on it. It seems that we have a problem connecting the report
to the Progress (9.1D) server when trying to run the reports. The left site
of the screen flashed "Loading" very quickly after we provided the login
information to the database, and the login prompt reappears.

In ODBC control panel, we were able to test a connection successfully. Is
there a special procedure for connecting Crystal Enterprise to the Progress
database?

Thanks in advance for your input.

Mary, dumb question, but did you set the report's settings in the Enterprise Report Configuration Manager? Also, in this area it allows you to set the password of the database for the report so that way you don't have to "login" each time you run the report. If you find that the login prompt reappears over and over again, I know that Seagate has a patch for that.

The standard version. I would like to use the Pro version, but I know it's very pricey.

It's under Enterprise's Report Configuration menu. There is a database tab that gives you these options. I don't have Enterprise up, but I believe the tab is called "Database". Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

It's under the Crystal Management Console, Global Management Settings.
I see what you are talking about but the data is view only, not
editable. Right now I am passing the credentials along with the report
to the Crystal Server like so:

http://PriceList.rpt?user0=odbcuser&password0=odbcuser

If you guys found a way to hard code these credentials into the Crystal
Configuration, let me know because it would solve my sub-report
credential problem.

Wendy - When you get a chance to check it, would you contact me
off-group?

The standard version. I would like to use the Pro version, but I know
it's very pricey.

It's under Enterprise's Report Configuration menu. There is a database
tab that gives you these options. I don't have Enterprise up, but I
believe the tab is called "Database". Someone please correct me if I'm
wrong.

Mary,

I don't have Enterprise up right now, but do you have a "Database" tab?
If I remember correctly there is a "database" tab under the Enterprise
Report configuration that needs to have the report username and password
entered.

Wendy,

Yes, we have entered the username and password for the report in the
properties portion under INSTANCES. The status report showed "Cannot
open SQL server", no other details were provided.

Mary, dumb question, but did you set the report's settings in the
Enterprise Report Configuration Manager? Also, in this area it allows
you to set the password of the database for the report so that way you
don't have to "login" each time you run the report. If you find that the
login prompt reappears over and over again, I know that Seagate has a
patch for that.

We have recently installed a Crystal Enterprise web server and loaded a
few test reports on it. It seems that we have a problem connecting the
report to the Progress (9.1D) server when trying to run the reports. The
left site of the screen flashed "Loading" very quickly after we provided
the login information to the database, and the login prompt reappears.

In ODBC control panel, we were able to test a connection successfully.
Is there a special procedure for connecting Crystal Enterprise to the
Progress database?

Thanks in advance for your input.

Mary,

This may have went away since I last used CE, but I had to make sure
that each of the Crystal Enterprise services (Control Panel,
Administrative Tools, Services) were running as Administrator, not
SystemAccount, before I could get rid of the looping database login. Do
you think that might be the problem?

Mary,
We are using CE for our web server for Crystal reports. I have never
been able to run Progress reports using the Crystal Management Console. I
get the same error you get. I was hoping to use the console to schedule
reports. I had a call logged into Crystal Support (issue 1361991) back when
I had free support, but they never resolved the issue after trying umpteen
different things.
I have settled for using simple URL links to run reports, adding them to
people's favorites in Internet Explorer. For scheduling reports I use a
nifty program the Adam Ellis wrote and made available to the group. It has
worked flawlessly for over a year now.

It would be nice if someone tackled the issue with Seagate and let us all
know what's up.

Is the Crystal Report Management Console only available on the
server?? We are using CR Pro 8.5 for Epicor. Does it have this
feature? I am looking for a place to enter the db password so the
user doesn't have to enter it each time they run a report...
