FW: Screen hangs

instead of "F:\VANTAGE\VANTAGE.VTG" set the command line to:

F:\PROGRESS\bin\prowin32.exe F:\VANTAGE\db\vantage.db -ininame
F:\VANTAGE\vantage.ini -pf F:\VANTAGE\db\Vantage.pf -N TCP -H ntserver -S
epic50 -ld vantage -p mainmenu.w -rand 2 -q -basekey ini

Thanks John, that explains the presence of PROMON. Now if I can only figure out
why the clients keep hanging...

Thanks!

You may be seeing the Intel PROMON utility that manages their NICs, if in
fact you're using their cards. I was thrown by this one for a moment!

I've noticed the same thing on our network. I also noticed that when I
press
Ctrl-Alt-Del that PROMON is running! It's not on one workstation but on
all.
When I stop PROMON the "hangs" are no longer a problem.

I have not been able to see how or why PROMON is loading on each and every
workstation. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

BTW, I've re-booted our server several times (for other reasons) and the
problem
has not gone away.

We just installed patch 904 for Version 4.0 two weeks ago. The week
following we also started experiencing screen hangs, at first it was just
one or two stations, but now it has spread to almost every workstation.
Some freeze the workstation and require a re-boot to get going again, while
other times we can do an Alt-Ctrl-Delete and end the task (we are using NT
4).

I talked with Vantage support; one person told me I should have put patch 44
on for progress 9.0 as well. I talked to support a second time and the 2nd
tech said I just needed to re-boot our server.

I intend to do both this weekend.

Anyone one else have any suggestions?????????

We are experiencing screen hangs lasting 10 seconds to a few minutes on
different workstations and on different areas of Vantage. It is only Vantage
that has hung all other operating systems on the workstations are ok. Has
anyone experienced this and were they able to resolve it.

We have this problem on just about every single workstation in the company.
I just upgraded us to 5.00.317 a few Saturdays ago. So if you or anyone
else has a good solution to this problem, please post it to the list!!

It may still be a problem with the Vantage.EXE application not unloading
correctly and conflicting with Microsoft Office applications. What I've
done to resolve this is to edit everyone's shortcuts to use the long hand
command line instead of the VTG file. This has resolved the problem for us.
Try it on a few machines that seem to be reporting it the most and see if
the problem goes away.
