FWD: Update to 5.0

Hi,
I'll try to answer the questions that a few different people asked,
hopefully I answer right. I'm not a "techie" person, have just been thrown
into this so most is still Greek to me.
Version of Vantage 5.00.317 Version of Progress 9.1A26
Server Compaq ML370, Windows 2000 5.00.2195 Service Pack 1, 399,732 KB RAM,
3.94 GB Memory, 1.78 used.
Why the dump and load? Long story, but back in 4.0 when the Dr. Watson
errors were occurring Epicor had asked us to do some testing to help them
troubleshoot the problem (because we are right down the road). When they did
this they restructured our database and it had never been put back to the
original configuration.
Thanks,
Judy

Hi,
Our database was around 550 MB before the update and it is 533 MB after.
Because we did the dump and load first ours actually got smaller. I think
after we did that it was around 518 MB and after the update it was 533 MB.
We didn't have to do the indexing, because of the dump and load (which took
about a total of about 5 hours, so just the indexing would have been less
time). The schema changes and data base conversions took about 3 hours to
finish. I agree the clients are a pain, but you can do them as soon as you
have 5.0 loaded and the other stuff is running. We have 44 clients and
depending on the machine the installs took 5-10 minutes/machine. I didn't
attend the class, but am wishing I would have as people are asking for
training on the changes already. I've barely read through them. We rushed
our conversion a little because we are trying to link our inventory to the GL
by 6/1, and we were changing our GL accounts. Therefore since they change in
5.0 we decided we wanted to update first. Overall it went very well and we
have been running for 2 days with no problems. Feel free to contact me with
any other questions.
Thanks,

Hi Judy,

I'm curious...how big is your database? Before and after.
Also, did you attend Epicor's 5.0 update class?
