Global Alerts link attachment in 5.2 or 6.0

Thanks. Well, I tried picking a port# that isn't used and plugged it in and
this time the attachment did come through, but like you're experiencing,
nothing happens when I double-click the attachment. Hmmm.

You could just write the export functions as .p files/procedures in any text
editor like notepad, and then just use the Windows scheduler to execute the
full Vantage command line using your .p file for the -p parameter at a
specific time of day. This would be a zero cost solution.

Taking the AR Aging export out of Vantage as the example:
-----------------------------------------

/* this opens a file for the export data */
output to c:\example.txt.

/* this was cut and pasted out of the export utility query tab */
for each InvcHead Where InvcHead.Company = cur-comp
and InvcHead.InvoiceBal <> 0.00 no-lock,
each Customer Where Customer.Company = InvcHead.Company
and Customer.CustNum = InvcHead.CustNum no-lock
By Customer.CustID
By InvcHead.InvoiceNum:

/* this section writes the data to the file (field names taken form the
export utility fields tab) */
put unformatted Customer.Name.
put unformatted ",". /* replace the comma with what you want to use as the
delimiter */
put unformatted InvcHead.InvoiceNum.
put unformatted ",".
put unformatted InvcHead.InvoiceDate.
put unformatted ",".
put unformatted InvcHead.InvoiceAmt.
put unformatted ",".
put unformatted InvcHead.DueDate.
put unformatted ",".
put unformatted InvcHead.InvoiceBal.
put unformatted ",".
put unformatted Customer.PhoneNum skip. /* last field, include a skip to
jump to next line */

end. /* end the for query */

output close. /* close the file */

quit. /* quit the program */
-----------------------------------------------

if the above was saved as a example.p file, then you could copy your
vantage.vtg file to a example.vtg file and edit the mainmenu.w and replace
it with the example.p. then schedule an event to run
"f:\vantage\vantage.exe f:\vantage\example.vtg" hope this helps.

We use winbatch and love it. www.winbatch.com
Do you have provision? I think it would be much easier to create a command
line to export the data needed. If you dont have it let me know what data
you need and I will write the progress procedure for you.

oops.... one thing I just noticed, replace the "cur-comp" on the for query
with your actual "company id". when the export runs from in Vantage, it has
a value for cur-comp. other than that, it should work just fine.

Has anyone been able to get the link that it attached to some GAs to open
the tracker as it is intended ? For example, we use the alert "time and
material line has shipped". Starting in 5.2 it has an attachment that, when
double-clicked, is supposed to open the order tracker to the specified
order. Our attachments do nothing when you double-click them. I reported
this to Epicor support some time ago, but they have not provided any help
yet. They created SCR 5839 but have taken no action on it. This was one of
the features in 5.2 we were looking forward to using. I am hoping someone
has them working and could provide some guidance. Perhaps they are at least
working in 6.0 ? The attachment is a XML document with a name such as
"999999.vdl". They are included with many GAs and are supposed to link to
several trackers like Job, Part, Order, et.al. We can not make any of them
work.

I'm on 5.2 and I don't even see an attachment when using global alerts. Do
I need to turn this on somewhere? I'd like to test it.

I would love to get a copy of the xml document if you dont mind. Even if it
doesnt work. I could use this function for other items. This would at
least give me a starting point.

Sarah, I had to put in an email port number in our company configuration to
have the attachments start appearing. Did not set anything else when we
upgraded, we were already using the GAs.
Jeremy, I will send you one directly.

I feel pretty dumb, but how do I know what the port# is for the direct
emailing?

I am getting into areas I know little about (something about being
dangerous) but I just picked an unused port # on my server (6650) and it
worked as far as sending the attachment. I originally thought my problem
may be related to the workstation trying to open the link and this port
number (this number is in the xml document). Epicor advised that it was
only for the server to send it and would not cause my problem.
