# Global Alerts with Lotus Notes / Domino Server

<div id="ygrps-yiv-110521997">We had Lotus Notes 4.5 for a long time before we moved to Exchange and I did<br/>
get it to work with the Notes 5 client,(and by the way you don&#39;t need Notes<br/>
5 server to work with Notes 5 client,)it was fairly easy if i remember<br/>
correctly. <br/>
There is also Inotes Access, (check Lotus Website), that can be used to work<br/>
with the free Outlook client, which means you would be using your Notes<br/>
server with an Outlook client.<br/>

<div id="ygrps-yiv-382562889">I&#39;m not a Notes expert, but the older ccMail program used a protocol called<br/>
VIM to communicate with other programs, Global Alerts uses the MAPI protocol<br/>
by Microsoft.  You will need to check to see if Notes supports MAPI.  That<br/>
is the only way that you will be able to get it to work with Global Alerts.<br/>
