Does anyone here use Global Scheduling? I am trying to find info on how it works, limitations, and can I restrict a job from being included in a Global Scheduling.
We do. Just lock a job in Job Entry to keep it from global scheduling. It will stay locked to whatever date and resources you currently have scheduled for it.
I am not very familiar with this one, so this question may seem simple, but I am curious. If I change a date in an order with 2 jobs after the jobs have been created, will Global Scheduling change the dates on the jobs according to the new date on the order?
This is scheduling we are talking about. Nothing is simple. ![]()
I don’t think global scheduling will change dates on a scheduled job based on changes to the demand links. I think you need MRP to do that. I happily defer to those with more intel on this.
I believe that if you change dates on your orders, then you need to go back and verify your demand links in the job, then reschedule it manually. Now I am curious about this too. I’ll post back if I find otherwise.
That’s a big thing for us. We have supply issues at times and dates change in the order, but to do each job can be crazy doing all those jobs on all those orders.
You can, and you do not need MRP to run (90% on that). There are a couple of places where you need to set some flags.
First is Site Maintenance under Planning. You need to turn on Synchronize Req By Date with Demand Links.
Next you need to have Synchronize Req By Date with Demand Links on the JobHead for each job. Ours is automatically on, can’t remember if that is the default or if I did something.
Thanks! Wasn’t aware of that! Much apprecaited!
Good call John! I had considered using the Sync Req by with demand, but for some reason we decided not to do it. Maybe I will go back and do some testing in Pilot.
We have those setting set for Sync Req By Date, however it will not work if the job is scheduled and engineered. Have you found a way around that, or is there another setting for that?
Are your Jobs locked? If they are they will not update.
In case you haven’t found it already, check out the Scheduling Technical Reference Guide in your help files. It’s a big one. There’s also one for MRP.
How can I verify if they are locked or not?
On the Job Header in the Scheduling block.
To clarify, we are wanting not just the date in the Demand link to be changed, but the whole job to have the dates adjusted accordingly.
i thought that it would work that way if the job was made to order. For parts made to stock how would it know the demand link
Yes, if you change the date on the order it will update the job and then scheduling will run with the adjusted date.
