Go Cold Blank Title 56438

Create (or get created) a pilot database for your use. Test techniques
in there and then apply them to the live database. This will keep the
garbage down. How much training has been done? Any at all? Are you using
the remote implementation team? For a small cost that can help. If
nothing else, get someone into Texas for a day or two and get some
training if it hasn't been done.

We are a small company. There will only be a few users on Vantage. I
will do all the accounting, the owner does all the engineering and
another guy will do all the job entry. We have been going back and forth
trying to figure things out about the system. I personally find it
difiicult to use the training module because of all the part, items,
jobs, etc. garbling up the information I am trying to look at. I feel
that we could start using the program now with the understanding that
things will be a bit "off" for a while until we perfect our procedures.
Adjustments can be made as needed since there will not be a huge amount
of activity. I would just like to see a clean slate so that I may
determine if I do X, Y will happen. Am I nuts? Is there a reason why we
should wait other than there might be a large number of corrections in
the beginning? I am just very frustrated at this point. We are going
from not job costing anything to a very complicated system. We only have
raw materials inventory. We have a few core items but we don't make
anything until its ordered. We're basically a job shop where 70% of our
jobs are repeat items.

A word of warning based on experience....there are some things that MUST be set up correctly from the start and lock you in to a bad situation if not. Things like coding schemes for resources or chart of accounts or even as tricial as employee ID. Put a great deal of thought into setting these sorts of code schemes. Also be sure to know which as alphanumeric field and which are pure numeric. If you code numbers into an alphanumeric field and don't provide leading zeros you can expect report sorting weirdness.

Perhaps wing it in your own test database for awhile and then scrub it and start over live after you gain some insights.

Tod is correct in being cautious with set-up.
After a false start, we listed our GL and
+ lined up classes to move purchases into accounts
+ lined up reason codes to move value between accounts
+ lined up product groups to move value between accounts
Then determined what accounts had no provision for value to be moved in our out.

One over-sight that haunts us now is the format of the GL.
We started as ONE company with
chart, 6 characters
dept, 2 characters

Now we have 2 companies and I wish our GL had a
2 character division in front of the account.

Second oversight - payroll was tricky to set-up.
money was dropping into wrong accounts.

It all works fine now.

Good luck. Over-all we are still quite pleased after 6 years and having 30 licenses.
