HELP: Progress Monitor: tty field blank

John,

Your choices are (in order of ease): a) Run WINS on one of your servers
b) create a HOSTS file for the Progress server c) setup a DNS server.

have fun,
john

Hi,

We have Vantage 6.1 setup using Progress 9. We have 30 licenses
available for vantage (30 people can be logged in at once). Now, to
monitor who is logged in, we use Progress Monitor (PROMON). In
promon, a text table is generated what shows the information about
everyone that is on. There is a "tty" field which shows the name of
the computer that is occupying a licence. For many of the computers
that are logged onto the system, the tty field is blank. It does not
show the name of the computer even though the computer has a name.
What causes this? How can we remedy it? We would like to be able to
see all of the computer's names.

Thanks.
Unfortunately you have to go into the vantage app under systems
management -- utilities -- connected users :(

Frank,
That was a quick response and good advice. I can now see them.
However, we use the promon to "kick off" users if someone else needs
a licence. What is causing the tty to be displayed as blank?

-thanks.

Jon,

Do the PCs have NetBIOS names defined? Is there a functioning DNS
server at your site? Or do you have up-to-date HOSTS files on the
clients and servers? The Progress server must be able to resolve at
least ip address to host name in order to display the host name in the
tty column.

John,
Thanks for the reply. There is no DNS server at this site. The
NetBIOS names were setup within windows (right click my computer, then
properties, then click the name tab). We have not setup the HOSTS
files at all. Let me know if this added info helps.
-Thanks
