I understand that the smart client will be discontinued in May and will be switched to a web browser. It is late, but we must prepare for this. I trust that the standard menus will switch well. But, I am worried about the customized classics.
Currently, customized classic menus pop up in the browser via the Edge agent, but I heard that this method will also be discontinued after May.
I would appreciate it if you could let me know how to switch these custom classic menus to a web browser. I would appreciate it if you could explain in order where and how to do it.
I am looking for my savior.
Thanks in advance!
I would recommend you reach out to Epicor directly or a partner to help you uplift this
There is no automated or step by step way to do this. It is a massive undertaking depending on how customized you are
There are tons of articles here on the site that can help but honestly based on the tone of your post it seems to me you may want to get a consultant or CSG to help
Unfortunately for this particular transformation there is no savior that can do it for you short of a consultant.
If you want to grind and learn it there are a ton of resources here and on YouTube but you have to do the work to get started
Thank you for the advice. Actually, I am aware of Epicor’s professional services, but I am in a different situation. I cannot reach out directly to Epicor and am waiting for instructions from headquarters. Also, the classic menu items I want to switch are only 4 or 5. So I want to quickly switch these menus to a browser mode on my own.
The problem is, a classic customization could range from the most simple thing to an extremely complex challenge, you are asking for the steps in order, it would be something like:
See if the wizard can convert it for you
See if you can live with what it gave you and if not, if you can change it to work as you desire
Give up and do it from scratch
So, you can probably try the wizard methods first, and go from there. But if you arrive at option 3 I would again say you are in consulting land, because that’s a lot to learn in the time frame you have.
This is almost always the answer with Kinetic. Can you talk about the customizations you are needing to convert. In my case it was a lot of custom dashboards. Each one had to be rebuilt individually inside application studio. Start with the BAQ that feeds the dashboard. Make sure the BAQ runs properly. Then use the Application studio wizard to create a new application using your BAQ as the datasource. Add the gridview, and the other views if needed. Most of the time you don’t need anything past the grid view. There are a lot of other better guides out there, but this is the process I follow every time now.
