Ian,
I have always created new security ID's. I'd never heard before about not
creating new ID's. The only limitation is your new ID's have to start with
UD.

Subject: [Vantage] How do I only allow users from one company access to a
custom menu item?
I wish to create a custom menu item that is only visible to users in one of
the 3 companies on our Vantage 8.03.409c system.
According to the help file I use the security ID of the parent folder on the
custom menu item.
However if I then exclude the security groups for the other companies, that
also applies to the parent folder (and anything else using that security ID
(which I do not want for obvious reasons).
Thew help file says not to create new security ids, so how dod you do it?
All feedback greatly appreciated.
