How do you deal with freight tracking numbers?

We use InSite and it can do LTL's also.

Hi All

We are looking for a way to capture freight tracking numbers (from shipping
labels) and somehow inform the customer of the details so they can track the
parcel.

Obviously we can type them in or scan them in, but then how do we inform the
customer about them? They could go on the Sales Order Ack, but they are done
pretty much as soon as the order is placed, and if goods are in stock, we
wouldnt print the shipping labels until we knew the goods were going to be
ready.

We are open to any suggestions or any methods that you have in use.

Thanks.

I have done some extensive modifications to our system for this. I first added a check box to the customer contacts indicating if they want a shipping notification sent. When the shipment is pulled in for invoicing, it sets the PackNum on the InvcDtl table. I use this to trigger a BAM that executes an Alert Program which emails the shipping notification. There are a few other things involved, like making sure notifications aren't duplicated, but that is basically it in a nut shell.

We use Insite, so Fedex and UPS tracking numbers are automatically added to the PackID. For LTL and Truck shipments we scan them in.

Thanks.

We use Advance Ship (an add on program) which inserts the UPS tracking numbers automatically. The trucking tracking numbers we enter manually. It is well worth the time spent to have the numbers in the system for future use.
