It can be overridden on the sales order by marking the release as not make-direct. However, if MRP has already generated the job suggestion, the suggestion needs to be deleted (from the sales order, through job entry, or the job manager).

Tony,
Tim is correct. If the part is set up as a non-stock part in the part master, then the system will ignore any on-hand stock when a new order is entered and send a recommendation to manufacture new parts when MRP runs.

Tony,
I’m not quite sure but if the part is coded as make to order, check next time you get an order for that part. The ERP system may ignore the quantity in stock and create an order for the full customer order quantity. We had problems with this in 9.04.507A. I don’t know if there are settings to prevent this.
You also have to make sure that it is shipped properly – from stock vs. from order.

Go into Job Entry and delete the make to order demand link. Create a new make to stock demand link and you can receive the part into inventory

How can you switch a make-to-order job to make-to-stock?
Occasionally a customer cancels, but we don't need to scrap the job, we can use it as stock.
Can I convert it to a make-to-stock without losing any WIP dollars?
