How to compile a .r to a .p

Ya... I was wondering how long it would take for someone to notice that
I had it backwards. :)

Hi Joe
What do you exactly want to do? You can never compile a .r program into
a .p program. If you have the OpenEdge tool you can compile from .p into
.r.
.p programs are readable with many editors and even text-editors while
.r are the executables.

Unfortunately you need to get the OpenEdge development tools. Not sure
of the price but I believe around $3k.

I have a simple question.

I have a simple Sales by State report that I want the end user to be able to pick a series of States,

Any suggestions. I thought I could use Option...where ShipTo.State =

But that just gives one text box to enter 1 State in. I would like to provide a choice of states.

What does the List parameter do in Options on the BAQ Report Designer Options.

Could you use territories to represent a group of states?

So I am not sure what you are saying? My query that the BAQ Report Designer report uses works fine...in that it includes Shipto.State field that when I click on
New Option I chose the drop down for the field Shipto.State =
Then in the BAQ Report Parameter form the option is to type in the text box: WI for instance and voila my report produces my Sales by State for WI that was typed in the option field.

What I want is to be able to Filter or pick a list of States. I tried filter, but it filters for the entire report query (a list of invoices and states) that I am using. I just want to filter for a list of the 50 States

I was wondering in BAQReport Options the choices are =, >,<,>=,<=, Begins, and List...What is List?

So the simple way is to add a parameter to your crystal that takes place
in-between the BAQ data generation and the crystal generation. The
parameter can be dynamic or static. If it's dynamic it will only display
a list of states generated in the BAQ data phase.

This is how the "Help" file decsribes list in the report options.

List (A series of values pulled from the BAQ column). I have never used it, but maybe this will steer you in the right direction.

You don't want to use an Option; you want to use a Filter. Then the user
can Filter to the states they want.

List (A series of values pulled from the BAQ column). I have never used
it, but maybe this will steer you in the right direction.

I am confused. I guess I am not sure what your BAQ is returning but let's
say your BAQ returns

Invoice Number Amount State

And when you run the BAQ it gives you

1 $10 TX
2 $20 OH
3 $30 WI
4 $40 CA
5 $50 WI

And then I run my Report using the BAQ Report Designer form. I have the
ShipTo.State as a Filter. I choose WI as the Filter and run the report it
should then only return

3 $30 WI
5 $50 WI

What about multiple filter input text boxes (you decide how many is enough) - all State and coded as ORs (with Not Null or not "" precoded criteria in the BAQ)?

Been a while since I have been involved in coding so there may be better ways: 2 BAQs: Yours and a second that is similar but intent is to only return states in an advanced search form where user can make multiple non contiguous selections - relate the 2 thru company & ship to (or bill to?) state.
To keep the state selection short, specify 1st record when joining the table to the others (rather than all)... It should give a 50 record max return list to select from & act as the criteria for filtering your main (more detailed) query.

Hi Joe
What do you exactly want to do? You can never compile a .r program into
a .p program. If you have the OpenEdge tool you can compile from .p into .r.
.p programs are readable with many editors and even text-editors while
.r are the executables.

Bert Jan James

Isn't it the other way around, .p compiled to .r ?

We bought ProVision Plus (OLD vantage 6.10.541) and are able to 'compile' our programs.

We didn't purchase it, but it was my understanding that it did come with on

Â
SDK doesn’t come with OpenEdge development as far as I know. Has it changed?

The SDK just gets you the source code and Epicor tools such as Adapter Creator,
Code Cop, Image Resource Editor, Templates for Visual Studio and StringEd.

Or you can buy the Vantage SDK for around $10k.

Unfortunately you need to get the OpenEdge development tools. Not sure
of the price but I believe around $3k.
